Midsummer, only a few kilometres from the ocean both in front and behind. We drove up one side of a fjord, then dropped down to the next fjord, with this in between. All this over the top of world's longest road tunnel.

Beautiful - if somewhat creepy - plant being grown by my dear friend, Libbi. This appears to be some sort of Hebe, and specifically may be a Midsummer's Beauty, aka Shrubby Veronica. the colors on this were gorgeous.

I wanted to wait until Autumn to take this shot as the tree outside Midsummer Place has a lot of leaves during Summer.

In Pagan mythology, Midsummer is the high point of the year - at least in the Northern Hemisphere. It is the longest day of the year, with the sun rising at its earliest and setting at its latest. Flowers are in bloom, crops are growing and the spring-born animals are maturing; the God of Sun is truly at his height.

Yet nothing remains forever; the nature of the universe is constant change. Even at the height of his powers the seeds of decay and destruction are being sown. From here the days will gradually shorten once more, although the warmest weather is yet to come and late summer will see the harvest. Also, at this point the zodiac moves into the sign of Cancer, the most feminine of the star signs with its ruler, the moon, tempering and balancing the masculine energy of the Sun God.

Irish mythology invokes Lugh, the God of Light. Lugh slays the old king whose reigh has become negative - the force of life is always fighting the forces of death and destruction. Although Midsummer is Lugh's supreme victory, he is wounded and gradually loses his strength and power - which is why the days start to shorten even though summer is at its height.

Traveling to high schools across Colorado, DCPA teaching artists perform abridged versions of Shakespeare plays for a popular education program called "Shakespeare in the Parking Lot." The next day, the actors often conduct classroom workshops to help students make the connection between the play its current-day relevance in their own lives. Here are photos from spring 2017, when the cast performed a 45-minute version of "A Midsummer Night's Dream." These photos come from performances at a local library, as well as the Denver Public Schools Shakespeare Festival. The cast is made up of Jessica Austgen, John Hauser, Kevin Quinn Marchman, Chloe McLeod, Jenna Moll Reyes, Kristina Fountaine and Justin Walvoord, with technical support from Stuart Barr. The director is Allison Watrous. Teachers can book performances for the fall by emailing education@dcpa.org. Shakespeare in the Parking Lot is made possible by a grant from Anadarko. Today was Isabella's first celebration of the summer, in Sweden we have a tradition called midsummer, each year on the 25th we are celebrating the summer. During this celebration we dress a cross with flowers and hanging two wreaths of flowers on each wing. Then we sing and dance around this cross wich is called "Midsummer pole", you may also have a wreath of flowers on your heads, just as Isabel is in the picture. Then you sit and eat and drink good all night and have a great time with friends and family! ^^
