I've spent today at an event about consciousness, on as part of the Brighton Science Festival. I even managed to listen and concentrate a bit, despite being rather hungover (I had some good company, which helped).
I love that stuff, and it is so fascinating to make connections between psychodynamic theory and neuroscience.
The talks I enjoyed the most were one in which it turns out that purple is a colour which does not *actually* exist but that the brain makes up, one about the uncertainty of memory, and the final talk about free will. I am perplexed about the dualistic way that people respond to the fact that the brain is in control, and disturbed by the dystopian possibilities this opens up in my imagination; a society in which people say "It was not me, it was my brain!" This resonates with my work in school too, with children who don't respond to the "language of choice" model we use; I wonder how much "choice" they experience having over their actions.
All of which is making my brain hurt. Or me hurt. Or both.

Inner workings of the old cell phone. I wasn't sure if I liked this version with the blur, or the version where everything as in focus.

My Arduino came today in the mail. I got lots of fun stuff. My first project will be a USB - controlled fan controller (lol say that one 5 times fast).
