Let's be very clear: Strong men - men who are truly role models - don't need to put down women to make themselves feel powerful. People who are truly strong lift others up. People who are truly powerful bring others together.

Our uniqueness, our individuality, and our life experience molds us into fascinating beings. I hope we can embrace that. I pray we may all challenge ourselves to delve into the deepest resources of our hearts to cultivate an atmosphere of understanding, acceptance, tolerance, and compassion. We are all in this life together.

We are one people with one family. We all live in the same house... and through books, through information, we must find a way to say to people that we must lay down the burden of hate. For hate is too heavy a burden to bear.

'I've come to believe that it’s worth getting to know your fearful mind... it’s never going to leave you. You can’t evict it. It’s more or less hardwired into your psyche and will accompany you onto every stage you set foot on, into every job interview you go to, and every new relationship you enter into. It’s there, and it’s not going to shut up.'

Nianbadu town is located at the deep valley of Xianxia Ridge, with a steep topography. There are four narrow passes around the town, among which the Anminguan lies at the east, the Fenglingguan at the south, the Liushiguan at the west and the Xianxiaguan at the north. On the military stratagem, it is a place which is easy to be guarded, but difficult to be attacked. Because of its important geographical position and frequent wars in the history, Nianbadu has become an immigration town with many dialects. There are totally nine dialects and over 130 family names in the town. The old rectangle-shape town has still been preserved well. The residences were built along the Fengxi Stream, which traverses the whole town from south to north. The whole town still has the building style of the 19 century.

"Most of life is just ordinary, you know you got to learn to be happy alone. You got to be happy a little bored. You got to be happy when things are hard. You got to learn how to be satisfied when you failed, when things don't go your way. Because all of that keeps getting you up"

Obama visits Buckingham Palace as protesters gather outside. London 24.05.2011
As U.S. President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle visited Buckingham Palace today to meet the Queen and later on attend a State banquet in his honour, a heavy policing and security operation took place involving uniformed, plain-clothed and armed police as well as US and UK Army and CIA operatives, as several large groups of protesters representing Libya, Iraq, Iran, Bahrain, Syria, the Stop The War Coalition (StWC) and the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) gathered across the road from the Palace by Canada Gate to vigorously denounce duplicitous US foreign policy which sees the very dictators which the so-called Arab Spring is trying to remove being supported financially, politically and militarily by the Obama Administration with strong support from British Prime Minister David Cameron's government, as both leaders publicly mouth insincere, media-friendly platitudes about the need for democracy in the Arab regions.
Also amongst the protesters were protesters in orange jump-suits calling for the release from Guantanamo Bay of British muslim Shaker Aamer, who has been held without charge or trial for over nine years in the harshest of conditions in the notorious American military prison. All the other British detainees have now been returned home, having all been the victims of cruel and inhuman treatment at the hands of their US Military captors, yet Shaker Aamer remains.
Though President Obama made the closure of Guantanamo one of the central themes of his pre-election campaigns, and despite him having signed an Executive Order to close Guantanamo by January 2010 soon after becoming President, the Military prison remains very much open for business as usual, and remains a part of the continuing U.S. policy of illegal abduction, rendition, torture and indefinite detention without trial or due process in the so-called "War on Terror".
Today's protesters also called for the closure of Guantanamo Bay and the equally infamous CIA prison at Bagram Airbase in Iraq, and for the immediate release of all the detainees who have not been charged with a single offence despite being brutalised for years by the U.S.A., which seems to think that the Geneva Conventions don't apply to them.

Diversity: the art of thinking independently together.
Malcolm Forbes
When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
John F. Kennedy
Real cultural diversity results from the interchange of ideas, products, and influences, not from the insular development of a single national style.
Tyler Cowen
Today when I think about diversity, I actually think about the word 'inclusion.' And I think this is a time of great inclusion. It's not men, it's not women alone. Whether it's geographic, it's approach, it's your style, it's your way of learning, the way you want to contribute, it's your age - it is really broad.
Ginni Rometty
We need to give each other the space to grow, to be ourselves, to exercise our diversity. We need to give each other space so that we may both give and receive such beautiful things as ideas, openness, dignity, joy, healing, and inclusion.
Max de Pree
What I'm trying to do is get a change in the mindset so people move from a level of mere tolerance to total acceptance and eventually to celebrate diversity. If you feel comfortable with one another, it doesn't matter whether we live in which neighbourhood but we can interact with one another freely. It's a mindset.
Najib Razak
Diversity on the bench is critical. As practitioners, you need judges who 'get it!' We need judges who understand what discrimination feels like. We need judges who understand what inequality feels like. We need judges who understand the subtleties of unfair treatment and who are willing to call it out when they see it!
Debbie Wasserman Schultz
We need to reject any politics that targets people because of race or religion. This isn't a matter of political correctness. It's a matter of understanding what makes us strong. The world respects us not just for our arsenal; it respects us for our diversity and our openness and the way we respect every faith.
Barack Obama
Right now, when we're hearing so much disturbing and hateful rhetoric, it is so important to remember that our diversity has been - and will always be - our greatest source of strength and pride here in the United States.

Michelle and Barack Obama
While trimming a mesquite tree late yesterday I got my first lady (beetle) photo op. I have never successfully photographed a lady bug, they seem harder to find in the desert southwest, but yesterday was my lucky day. I jumped down from the ladder, grabbed my trusty macro and fortunately returned to find my model waiting.
It was my first shot in weeks and it felt good to be back behind the lens. I was so proud I showed Mrs. Pixel my “First Lady Bug” and the tree in the reflection of the shell along with the setting sun, what detail I told her. Besides I didn’t finish trimming the tree and I was going for the old dazzle her with BS. She gave me one of those looks and then returned with the People Magazine she had put aside to mark the historic election. There was Michelle Obama's dress, which I remembered caused quite a fashion stir.
I put the shot below for comparison, but I must tell you for me it was one of those mind twisting moments. I figured it was a sign, a message to Dusty “to get back on the horse and return to FLICKR”. I have been consumed working, playing catch-up from vacation as well as the holiday and denying myself my true passion, Photography.
Thanks to the First Lady (both of them) as I am happy to be back on FLICKR.
I attended the final Colorado campaign stop that Barack Obama made on 01 Nov 2008, a few days prior to the election. A few thousand people attended this rally in Pueblo, CO, to hear Senator Obama speak.
I actually cried taking this photograph.
I've been to thousands of political rallies. I've been a delegate, a campaign worker, a political activist. I've shaken hands with lots of players in this game. Politics doesn't usually get to me anymore. I have laughed, screamed, spoken out, marched, or swore... but never cried until that day in Pueblo. When Michelle Obama finished her pep talk and introduced her husband, I looked through my camera's viewfinder and cried.
This photograph is special because it captures a personal moment between husband and wife, in front of a great public, and conveys an emotion we don't normally see.
I cried over the personal sacrifice of this couple in making this run for the highest office of our nation. But I also cried because their hope and courage revived in me what led me into politics all those years, rallies, and campaigns ago: belief in the audacity of hope to change our circumstances. I actually believe in this man and in his campaign, in his drive to bring a populist movement to life.
This photo, and others I took that day at the rally, received an incredible response when I posted them to my Flickr account. Another photo in this series received over 10,000 views within a week of it being posted, with encouragement and support for Obama from people worldwide. What is historical about this series of photos is that an average citizen can cover an event and post it to the internet, reaching far flung people and encouraging a new sort of equality. My photos share an equal footing and equal exposure with large media outlets thanks to the internet. But there is also a personal component to that equality; my friends and acquaintances are better able to "feel like they were there" by virtue of knowing me. That in itself is historical, whether or not this particular photograph ever attains historical notoriety.
But I do believe this photo has historical merit because it shows a personal yet public moment from the last days of a long and arduous campaign. It exhibits love, which may seem an odd thing to convey in a political campaign, but actually may be the driving force behind why any politician, activist, or photographer does what they do.

In this country of abundance, it is really not all that unusual to see homeless people scrounging through trash cans for food.
When faced with starvation, they may even be driven to eat items that are not on the Michele Obama approved list of foods!
