Finally I can show the first image from my recent photography workshop; my PC has not been happy recently and finally gave up completely (it was seven-years-old so I guess I can’t complain too much!) so new components have now arrived and I’ve managed to find the time to rebuild and get Lightroom and Photoshop installed, so far the only loss is a couple of weeks of Lightroom updates which is not too bad in the grand scheme of things.

On the day we started in at St. Michael’s Mount and we tried to find some alternative views from this famous location… it was low tide when we arrived which of course meant lots of people walking across the causeway (the natural lead-in line) but scoping out the rock-pools we noticed there was a nice reflection on offer. Most of the pools were too small but venturing a bit further we found this large pool which included some nice seaweed which I decided to use as the foreground interest in my shot.

As the seaweed is so close I merged two shots to get front-to-back focus, one focused on the seaweed, and one focussed on the mount itself, the clear water in the middle making merging the shots quite simple.

The St. Michael’s Church is the largest church in Hamburg. The church has a Latin cross plan with 44 m width, 52 m length and 27 m height.

The 132-meter-high church tower, characteristic steeple dominates the skyline of the city and was considered as an orientation mark for ships sailing on the river Elbe. In 83 meters, the tower platform offers an excellent panoramic view over the city and the harbour.

St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church has the distinction of being the second oldest Polish church in Manitoba.

It'll soon be a whole year since I was at this spot in West Cornwall, in truth, probably my favourite place in the whole of the UK.

Still recall encountering this view for the first time many moons ago and just thinking WOW!

Probably taken more photographs at this spot than any other location and in around eight weeks, I'll be back once again.

St Michael's Mount is iconic Cornwall at it's very best.

St Michael's Mount is a small tidal island in Mount's Bay, Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. The island is a civil parish and is linked to the town of Marazion by a man-made causeway of granite setts, passable between mid-tide and low water.

St Michael's Church is located by the side of the River Derwent in the dispersed settlement of Isel, in the civil parish of Blindcrake, Cumbria, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Derwent, the archdeaconry of West Cumberland, and the diocese of Carlisle. Its benefice is united with those of nine local churches to form the benefice of Binsey. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building

I managed a wee trip down to Cornwall after Easter and visited a few of the regular haunts. There's now a huge new Sainsbury's that appears to be half the size of Penzance - sad to see the old heliport go.

First up is St Michael's Mount. It's hard to catch waves first time when you are shooting film!

It was such a beautifully clear night last night that I decided to get out with the camera, even if the galactic core isn’t currently visible. As it was a last minute decision I didn’t fancy a major excursion so I had look around for compositions around the village and settled on a shot of our local church.

Today is my 40th birthday so I couldn't let it pass without quoting Oscar Wilde...

"The old believe everything; the middle-aged suspect everything; the young know everything."

The reason I chose the title is because my middle name is Ernest =)

Tides out at Marazion, meaning you can walk across to St Michael's Mount. You need to take a boat (or swim) in high tide.

Looks pretty gloomy, but it's more of a haze and very warm!

Probably, Cornwall's most iconic landmark, and judging by the number of cars, campervans and coaches in the nearby car parks, it has to be one of the most visited.

This is St Michael's Mount, situated alongside the ancient market town of Marazion (although I must admit, 'market town' miss-represents Marazion's size in my opinion as I look upon the place as more of a large village than small town).

The causeway to the Mount gets covered twice a day by the incoming tide, necessitating a boat crossing if you wish to visit when it becomes an island.

The former Benedictine monastery which crowns the top is also home to the St Aubyn family and St Michael's Mount is now in the care of the National Trust.

Cracking sunset over St Michael's Mount in Cornwall

The mount itself, is dedicated to St. Michael, whom in Cornish Legend; appeared to a group of Cornish fishermen in 495 AD - standing high on a rocky ledge on the western side of the Mount.

This is uncanny, since on the opposite site of the English Channel, in Britanny, the same angel appeared to a bishop to build a chapel on the top of a rock, which later became known as Mont St Michel. See www.flickr.com/photos/lenaye/sets/705824/

After checking the weather forecast I see the summary for the last Saturday in August is "strong winds and rain". It's been overcast, chilly and rainy for most of this last week now and so, desperate for some sunshine, it looks like I'm going to have to stay with the holiday snaps from last month (which increasingly seems like a very long time ago.

Here's another view of one of my favourite subjects – St Michael's Mount looking just stunning as always, especially in the warm Cornish sunshine.

The Trumpeter Swan, Cygnus buccinator, is the largest native North American bird, if measured in terms of weight and length, and is (on average) the largest living waterfowl species on earth.

Inadvertent double exposure. I shot 1/2 roll of film in Riverside Cemetery in Denver, CO, rewound it, wrote the frame number on a sticky note (which fell off). Put the same cannister back in and shot on in England starting on frame 1. I think the image taken in the cemetery was with an Olympus XA and the image of St. Michael's mount was with my Pentax K1000 and the 77mm limited

Amazing cave structure with light and music show.

St Michael's Mount viewed from the beach at Marazion. Note the causeway is now beneath the sea.The state of the tide means the Mount is only accessible by boat.

Marazion is a civil parish and town in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is situated on the shore of Mount's Bay, two miles (3 km) east of Penzance and one mile (1.6 km) east of Long Rock.

St Michael's Mount is half-a-mile offshore from Marazion. At low water a causeway links it to the town and at high water passenger boats carry visitors between Marazion and St Michael's Mount.

Marazion lies within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Almost a third of Cornwall has AONB designation, with the same status and protection as a National Park.

Marazion is a thriving tourist resort with an active community of artists who produce and sell paintings and pottery in the town's numerous art galleries.

St Michael's Mount looking quite magnificent in the late afternoon Summer sunshine.

I have to admit that I don't know of another landmark anywhere that looks so good from so many different vantage points!

St Michael's Mount, Cornwall, UK.

Originally the site of a Benedictine Chapel, the spectacular castle on the rock dates from the 14th Century.

Now in the care of the National Trust, the Mount's castle and gardens are open to the public during weekdays from April to October, and most weekends.

Access is on foot across the causeway at low tide, or by short ferry crossing at high tide. St Michael's Mount, is "the jewel in Cornwall's crown".

St Michael's Church is situated on an industrial site between gas holders and a railway line in Church Road, Garston, a district of Liverpool .

The first church on the site was built in 1225 , and the second in 1715 . The present church was built between 1875 and 1877 and was designed by Thomas D. Berry and Son . The church has a historical connection with the Norris and the Watt families of Speke Hall.

Although there was already a church on this site (then known as St James's), little of that remains, with later additions. The tower itself was extended by Nicholas Brome at the end of the 15th century. He inherited the house in 1483, along with the right to appoint the parish priest to nearby St James’s church. In 1485, Nicholas returned home to find a man stroking his wife’s chin in the parlour. Outraged, he drew out his sword and killed him – only to discover that it was his Rector at St James’s church. Appalled at what he had done, Nicholas built a higher tower at this church and also at Packwood House, as a penance. He also directed that he be buried in the porch of the church so he would be trodden on as people entered and left.

Some beautiful and colourful churches spread around Kyiv. St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery is a functioning monastery in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. The monastery is located on the right bank of the Dnieper River on the edge of a bluff northeast of the Saint Sophia Cathedral.

I am very lucky to be able to travel to places like St Michael's Mount for work and took a lovely stroll across the causeway the other day. Quite amazing blue sky considering Cornwall was wet and snowy the day before!

St. Michael's Parish Church is one of the largest burgh churches in the Church of Scotland. It is one of two parishes serving the West Lothian county town of Linlithgow, the other being St. Ninian's Craigmailen. St Michael is the town's patron saint; the town's motto is "St Michael is kinde to strangers". Quoted from Wikipedia

In the grounds, but not part of Chenies Manor, is St Michael’s Church, built in the 15th century as a parish church. By the 1700s it was in a dilapidated state, the chancel roof having collapsed, and it was in 1829 that the Rector, Lord Wriothsley Russell, set about renovating it during his 57 years in office. He did a thorough job, including raising the roof and installing a new hammer beam roof in 1886. Younger son of the Duke of Bedford, he persuaded his half-brother (the 7th Duke) to build a school in the village and himself established an orphanage. The most impressive part of the church is the Bedford Chapel, with a number of grandiose tombs. Unfortunately it was locked so we were unable to see it more closely.
