The Monastery of St. Nicholas Anapafsas - Μονή Αγ. Νικολάου Αναπαυσά

Evening view on Meteora, Greece from a viewpoint 5 minute walk away from my accommodation, I was pleasantly surprised to see lighting on the rock faces, which I don't remember seeing during previous visits, modern Kalambaka town below the rocks is, let's kindly say, "architecturally challenged". and best seen at night from above.

You will have heard of the medieval Greek Orthodox monasteries on top of some of these rock pillars in Thessaly, but the rocks themselves, and the landscape, are equally fascinating. A mixture of sandstone and conglomerate, plus the lifting up of an ancient seabed and then the work of erosion have created these remarkable formations. Leica M8, Voigtlaender 35/1.4.

Meteora, Greece on a quiet early spring morning, happy Monday to everyone.

Meteora Greece - I really liked this place.

It's so different from anything I've seen before, I got the same sensation as I had when I went to Iceland, simply didn't knew how to stop taking shots of everything left and right.

Next time I'll be here I'll be more prepared and will take better shots.

Also I'll make sure to bring a tripod - had to do everything hand held this time due to luggage size, but note to self: less underwear, get a tripod instead :))

Monastery of St. Stephen - is one of two female monasteries of Meteora. Rock on which stands the convent, is separated from massive of deep chasm over, which it was moved permanent bridge. The first monastery probably was founded here in 1192 .

Such a wonderful place to explore and take pictures.

Just amazing to look at the rocks and think at all of the effort that went in into building something there.

Meteora, central Greece, is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List

I'm just back from my trip to Greece, browsing through the photos. This is one of my favourite shots. It was early in the morning, when coulds of mist were floating underneath the monasteries.

@Meteora Greece.

This is the Rousanou monastery, one of six still functioning monasteries.

One of the coolest places I've ever visited, really worth it.

Also managed to capture it during a bit of rain... I just can't seem to stop thinking about how this would look with a little bit of fog... maybe next time :)

Meteora, greece. wasn't the best sunset today, but the rock formations in this area makes up for that.

Standing above the Meteora landscape you feel like heaven. A photographers dream at a very bright sunset evening. Worth to visit...

St Stephen Monastery (Agios Stefanos), the alluvial plain of the Pineios River and the Pindus Mountains in the background. This is one of the few still "functioning" monasteries. The story of these medieval and most remote places of spiritual retreat is well-known. The paradox is that the influx of mass tourism (and, yes, me included), being one of the reasons why these places can be financially maintained by Church and Government, is directly opposed to the monkish idea of getting away from the noise of the world. Under today's conditions, I would say, one can much more easily live as a hermit in the middle of the city. Leica M8, Voigtlaender 35/1.4.
