It is is used to make gabion mesh (heavy duty hexagonal mesh) of various widths and mesh sizes. For high corrosion resistance, hot dig galvanized,zinc and PVC coated wire is better.

This is my first realistic face model. I model it base on picture of myself. Anyway, one helpful tip when modeling a face that will be animated is the mesh topology.
As you can see on the wireframe of the model, you can see a circular shape around the eyes and the mouth.

Closer view of the template piece. I've got the angles marked, and I've drawn the rim on it so I can see where the bolt holes will be. The two marks on the X and Y axes are pilot hole locations for adding the stock feet from the original heads.

The 13 foot 4 inch sculpture is being made for more detail and for scaling from there to the giant figure.
These proportions look normal but the mesh level has to be 'thinner' than the finished size, which will be in a clay layer that goes over this. The clay is a half inch to one inch thick.
This rigorous process ensures a workable weight for the 13 foot piece, which will be about 1700 pounds in the clay layer alone.
After the clay is sculpted, a mold is built for Hydrocal plaster casts that will be made in 3 foot sections. The pieces are then scaled to 9 foot steel sections for the 40 foot piece. The large sections will be trucked to the playa and assembled.*

* - I don't know if Marco will see the giant assembled at the studio; his first view of the whole may come at the same time as the Burning Man crew.
- if it works out this way, it reminds me of composers who write orchestral works and hear only their piano version until the premier- if ever. Beethoven never 'heard' the Ninth.
Dec. 14-
We learned at the party that Marco will assemble the large steel sections outside the studio ( they won't fit inside ). So, he will see the piece before it is trucked to the desert.
Many of us will go to see the piece assembled. Most of these people can't go to Burning Man for various reasons, so this exciting experience will substitute.
