Quote from Aldous Huxley writing of his experience under the influence of mescaline in the 1954 book "The doors of perception". Full quote: "A rose is a rose is a rose. But these chair legs were chair legs were St. Michael and all angels." He paraphrased the original "Rose is a rose is a rose" by Gertrude Stein from the poem "Sacred Emily". Aldous Huxley was my chosen subject in English for the final school exam. His quote kept coming up looking at a bunch of roses which instilled a sense of wonder as they kept changing in mysterious ways. Late afternoon window light in overcast conditions.

From my collection
Echinopsis pachanoi— known as San Pedro cactus — is a fast-growing columnar cactus native to the Andes Mountains at 2,000–3,000 m in altitude, particularly common in the Colca Valley. It contains Mescaline, a psychedelic drug. Uses for it include traditional medicine and traditional veterinary medicine, and it is widely grown as an ornamental cactus. It has been used for healing and religious divination in the Andes Mountains region for over 3,000 years.

The start of a major fire at a neighboring timber wholesaler.
Biggest fire I've ever seen in my life.
At first, my buddies and I thought it was just a hallucination. At that time we were experimenting a lot with exotic psychedelics, and the evening the picture was taken, mescaline was on the program. As the trip was only just beginning, I was still able to take this picture from the balcony. ;-)
The crane melted after a few hours and toppled over,
the fire was only under control after 3 days.

My mother (on the right wearing the tacky flowery dress) and other stoned party goers captured by my father with his Leica M2 camera and 35mm Summicron lens with Kodachrome slide film in 1961. My mother was worn out by then from carrying and giving birth to five children and was also suffering from post-partum depression, so the booze intake was approprate medicine, I think, because she also suffered all her life from a personality disorder involving shyness and intermittent partial obliteration of her ability to interact with reality. She got this disorder from her Swedish mother or her Norwegian father. This is middle class America before marijuana, LSD, and mescaline invaded the Bay Area around San Francisco.
Psychedelic art is art inspired by the psychedelic experience induced by drugs such as LSD, mescaline, and psilocybin. The word "psychedelic" (coined by British psychologist Humphrey Osmond) means "mind manifesting". By that definition all artistic efforts to depict the inner world of the psyche may be considered "psychedelic". However, in common parlance "Psychedelic Art" refers above all to the art movement of the 1960s counterculture. Psychedelic visual arts were a counterpart to psychedelic rock music. Concert posters, album covers, lightshows, murals, comic books, underground newspapers and more reflected not only the kaleidoscopically swirling patterns of LSD hallucinations, but also revolutionary political, social and spiritual sentiments inspired by insights derived from these psychedelic states of consciousness.
"There are things known and there are things unknown, and in between are the doors of perception."
- Aldous Huxley
Feast your eyes on "Mississippi Headwaters at Sunrise"—a wild, psychedelic explosion of nature’s raw juice, captured at the crack of dawn. The sun’s a glowing, golden lunatic, rising over the water like some deranged deity, casting a fever-dream shimmer across the rippling chaos of the Mississippi’s birth. Those rocks? Scattered like the remnants of a lost weekend, jagged and unapologetic, framing the scene with a gritty, primordial edge. Trees stand tall, silent sentinels in this liquid madness, their reflections dancing in the water like ghosts of a bourbon-soaked night. The sky’s a canvas of blue and gold, smeared with clouds that look like they’ve been through a blender—pure, untamed beauty that hits you like a shot of mescaline. This ain’t just a photo; it’s a goddamn trip into the heart of the wild, where the river begins its long, twisted journey with a snarl and a grin.
There is nothing scary about driving through Transilvania, alone. Sure, things look a little out of the ordinary, not to worry, that's the Mescaline.

I have been doing a lot of these. And if truth be told, these are not my absolute favorite ones of the series: Those I am keeping under my hat for now... ;-)
The poses are by Frigg Ragu. The preset used is a modified version of London 2050 by Mescaline Tammas. I reduced the gamma to practically zero and then added a lot of tiny light prims set to a very low range scattered all around the avatars.
Needless to say, the original SL photograph has subsequently been very heavily deconstructed in photoshop.

In Dreams we trust.
The air crackles with an electric fervor, my friends, as I bear witness to an awe-inspiring spectacle in Lisa's garden. It is a psychedelic ambush of the senses, a riotous rebellion of vibrant hues that assaults the eye like a mescaline-laced fever dream. The Oriental Lilies, those brazen vixens of the botanical world, have staged a coup d'état, claiming the entire floral dominion for their own. With an audacity that borders on lunacy, these blossoms of insurrection snatch the limelight with an unruly display of grandeur, leaving no room for subtlety or humility.
In their ferocious bloom, they defy all conventional notions of decorum and restraint. Petals unfurl like flamenco dancers in a savage frenzy, flaunting their crimson, gold, and ivory splendor with a brazen audacity that dares you to look away. The garden trembles under their kaleidoscopic onslaught, a pulsating mélange of color that drowns out the whispers of the meek and delicate. It is a spectacle so bewitching, so explosively alive, that one cannot help but surrender to its intoxicating allure, losing oneself in this hedonistic carousel of botanical rebellion. Oh, what a world, my friends, where even the flowers dare to challenge the very fabric of nature's order!
