Here in the Southern Hemisphere, a white Christmas is unheard of, and yet through careful artifice, such a romantic Christmas time idyll is achievable, such as this lovely snow covered fir cone and branches.
Whilst shopping with a friend in Sassafras, a small township in the Dandenong Ranges just outside of Melbourne, a few weeks ago, we walked into a frock and jewellery shop which was quite literally a winter wonderland, even if the snow wasn't real.
So, a white Christmas is still attainable even during the height of an Australian summer!

Thank you to everyone who has viewed, ‘faved’ and/or commented on my photographs throughout this year.... and for many years in some cases. All very much appreciated.
First, In Malaysia (where I captured this sunset) -- and in close countries like Thailand and Singapore -- blood-red sunsets (also anywhere) are popular. Not only for their beauty, but also because they signal calmer weather conditions are moving in, and unstable ones like monsoons and heavy rains are moving out.
As such, a blood-red sunset doubles as a positive weather forecaster and a socially valued mood enhancer. :-) If it also happens in late December, it's then linked to having more of a good holiday, a merry xmas, and/or a new year, which is also wished here rom me to you and yours at this time. :-)
But where did I capture this one? In September 2025, when I was visiting Tioman Island (Pulau Tioman) in the state of Pahang, on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, within the South China Sea.
For your interest, Tioman is known for its beautiful rainforests, coral reefs, and popular snorkelling/diving spots and surfing. It's one of the many tropical islands of Malaysia that I visit from my Asian work base at nearby Singapore, when I'm over that way, for a long holiday or a quick island visit (of about 3-4 days). I enjoy hanging out there, taking photo shots, surfing when its available, as on Tioman, the beautiful sunsets and sunrises, sunbaking and relaxing, and visiting the marine parks and so on...
Tioman also has an interesting history. During the past thousand years, it has played host to Chinese, Arab, and European trading ships en route to Champa (a historic maritime kingdom in ancient Vietnam), and often Chinese porcelain shards can be found on beaches around the island.
In more recent history, Tioman played host to both British and Japanese navies during the Second World War. As a result, the waters around the island are littered with war remains, including HMS Repulse and HMS Prince of Wales.
In addition, the marine area around Tioman Island and eight other nearby islands have been declared as marine parks and marine reserves. They feature three marine ecosystems: coral reef, seagrass bed, and mangrove forest. So, there is an interesting array of both mammals and sea species to see.
