A quiet moment suspended between healing and hope.

Captured at Let’s Talk! Peer Support For Addiction & Mental Health in Second Life, this space reflects the calm that can exist between difficult thoughts, heavy emotions, and the journey toward recovery. The bridge symbolizes transition, while the flowing water reminds us that healing is never linear only moving forward, one breath at a time. I had a busy old day and as we were meeting friends in Glasgow this afternoon I had little chance of taking any photos! However, when walking through the railway station at Glasgow I couldn’t help but notice this great wooden sculpture!

Stay Safe And Healthy Everyone!

Thanks to everyone who views this photo, adds a note, leaves a comment and of course BIG thanks to anyone who chooses to favourite my photo …. Thanks to you all!

Since the text turned out long, I put the full version in the comments. I know not everyone enjoys reading that much, so thank you to those who take the time.

"You know when you’re in a bad dream and you’re trying to run, punch, kick, or scream, and your body just won’t move? You open your mouth and nothing comes out. You feel frozen or in slow motion, and no matter how hard you try to fight it, nothing changes. That’s how it feels to battle mental illness". -- Evyenia

Like Ousmane, Kadidia, 14, had to flee her home when her school closed due to the violence sweeping through Mali.

She now lives with her aunt in Mopti, and attends a school supported by Save the Children.

Kadidia is determined not to let conflict disrupt her education, and her parents feel the same.

Kadidia knows the value of education – even more crucial in a culture where early marriage may force girls to give up their hopes of studying.

She enjoys chemistry, maths and biology, and wants to become a doctor.

Born during the conflict, Kostia and Polina have survived the horrors of shelling and active fighting. The family has spent many nights in their basement, hiding from shelling.

The ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine continues to threaten the physical health of children, and can also have a lasting impact on their mental health and wellbeing.

Mikhail, an experienced psychologist working with People in Need (PIN) under an EU-funded project, regularly visits the village. He offers group and individual counselling for adults and children.

‘Psychological help was very much needed for me and my children,’says Nastia. ‘It helped me to calm down and change my attitude towards the situation, and to improve the relationship with my husband. The children are happy when Mikhail is coming. They enjoy different activities and sessions, and I see the positive results.’

Kostia’s mother Nastia remembers his birth, in 2014 – the same year the conflict began in Donbas — as a very emotional time.

There was active fighting in the area, but the family had nowhere else to go. They remained in their house and tried to protect themselves as best they could.

‘The shells were flying right above us,’ Nastia recalls. While the fighting in the area has since subsided, the residents of Slavne still regularly hear shelling. They still don’t feel safe in their home village.

‘Kostia is a “child of war” – he is exactly the same age as the conflict,’ says Mikhail, the psychologist. ‘I am pleased that I was able to establish contact with Kostia, support him, and help him prepare for school and adapt to the new social environment.’

Ousmane plays with friends in an abandoned mill in his village in Mopti, Mali.

He attends the Save the Children school for free, and is given all the supplies he needs for his studies.

11-year-old Ousmane gets ready to leave for school in Mopti, central Mali.

Fleeing the violence that killed his father, Ousmane is now living with his aunt, Awa, who describes the little boy as a joy to be around.

“The whole village loves him, “she says.

When not in school, Ousmane helps by looking after and feeding goats in his village.

He remains optimistic: “I have strength, I am brave,” he says”. “No one gets ahead of me in school.”

Kostia lives in eastern Ukraine with his younger sister, Polina, 4, and their parents.

Like children all around the world, he was excited to return to school this year. But for students living close to the frontline, education looks a little different.

There are no schools in Slavne, so Kostia and his sister have to travel to a neighbouring village to learn.

Still, for Kostia, the commute to school is worth everything. He made friends and is excited about his new favourite subject, computer science.

Eventually, he wants to become an archaeologist, he says, ‘because I want to find dinosaur bones. I love dinosaurs.’

Maintaining the Shield (deflecting depression) is an image that portrays the onset of depression. In the peripheral view a seemingly innocuous cumuli of tiny black particles begin to gather. They swirl and dance in the air like a noxious cloud of negatively charged electrons. Eventually the choking fringes of an acidic wave drift gently inwards. Within this murky cloud the metaphoric atoms of fear eventually reveal themselves, as they roll and settle into the mind like a fine mist. Looming blacker, they morph into particles of panic threatening to engulf all feeling, killing emotion, replacing memory with a numb abyss. No two people are the same, yet for all who experience the onset of mental darkness, it takes great bravery and training to recognise the signs of onset, to banish the cloud before it can envelop, to take control. To attempt an explanation of the unpredictability of its onset, in varied semblance, can lead others to doubt its very existence, which is devastating for the mind that is fighting this internal battle. Time, patience and determination are key to building a defensive enclosure that can filter in happiness yet block the spectre of destructive negativity and self deprecation.

Social media can be a double-edged sword—especially for kids and teens. While it connects and entertains, it can also impact mental health, self-esteem, and emotional well-being. This image highlights the growing concerns around screen time, comparison culture, and online pressure in young minds. Therapy and early intervention play a vital role in helping children and teenagers build resilience, manage anxiety, and develop healthy digital habits.

Connecticut Care managers are the unsung heroes of home healthcare. working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that people receive the best possible care. These healthcare professionals coordinate care across providers, advocate for patients' needs, and navigate complex insurance policies, state and federal regulations and reimbursement guidelines. Despite the critical role that care managers play in the home healthcare system, they are often underpaid and overwhelmed. they often face significant challenges that can lead to burnout, job dissatisfaction and overwelm.

As a community, we must prioritize the well-being of care managers and provide them with the support they need to thrive. By doing so, we can empower these healthcare heroes to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while also promoting their own professional fulfillment and personal well-being.

Here are some strategies for supporting Connecticut's care managers:

Increasing resources and tailored trainings: Care managers need access to the latest information and training to stay up-to-date on the best practices and changes in the healthcare industry. Organizations can provide access to training programs, professional development opportunities, and relevant resources to help care managers build their skills and knowledge.

Support with Streamlineing administrative tasks: Care managers often spend a significant amount of time on administrative tasks such as documentation and scheduling. By reducing administrative burdens, organizations can help care managers focus more on person centered care. Investing in technology to streamline administrative tasks or hiring additional administrative staff can be an effective solution.

Increased collaboration and communication systems: Care managers need to work closely with healthcare providers, patients, and family members to deliver effective care. Organizations can encourage collaboration and communication by providing opportunities for care managers to meet with other healthcare professionals, use telemedicine or virtual visits, and communicate regularly with patients and their families.

Addressing workload and staffing concerns: Care managers may feel overwhelmed by their workload, especially in cases where patient demand exceeds staffing capacity. Organizations can address workload and staffing concerns by monitoring caseloads, providing additional staff as needed, and using data to inform staffing decisions.

Prioritize self-care and work-life balance: Care managers may experience burnout due to the demands of their job. Organizations can promote self-care and work-life balance by encouraging employees to take breaks, providing access to mental health resources, and implementing flexible scheduling policies.

By supporting care managers, we can build a healthcare system that prioritizes the well-being of patients and healthcare professionals alike. Empowering care managers to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while also promoting their own professional fulfillment and personal well-being is a win-win for everyone involved.

Let's come together as a community to understand and invest in our care managers and build a brighter future for healthcare in Connecticut. Together, we can make a difference and create a system that truly cares for those who care for us.
