Section of a "Krusty Korn Kobs" cast aluminum cornbread pan. The pan was patented in 1920 by US company Wagner Ware, who promoted cornbread as: "Another good thing that has come out of the war".

Corn had replaced wheat during World War I, with the United States Food Administration promoting "Meatless Mondays" (not Happy for some!) and "Wheatless Wednesdays", to encourage economical food consumption, not trendy diets.

Found in the Kitchen

After much pondering on the kitchen theme I settled on the OXO's, but had to buy a couple of extra boxes of oxo's just to make what you see above, as they are all wrapped quite random! Never mind I won't have to buy more for a long time! Reminds me of doing a Rubik Cube!!!

Let´s slice som strawberries. For Macro Mondays. HMM!!

Almost forgot to post something this week. Using the time difference at my advantage.

My normal routine for the shots I take for Macro Mondays involves me sitting at the kitchen with my macro rig, 90% of the times. So I was delighted to see "Found in the kitchen" to be this week's theme.

I found a grateful (pun intended) subject in this dangerously coarse grater, I dimmed all the lights and used my LED ringflash as the only light source. This was a fun theme to shoot, more themes like this please!!

HMM to all!!

I am a tea drinker. My mother was a tea drinker. It's the Irish in me and according to my dear mother, the solution to everything. The teapot and the kitchen table were the emotional heart of our home.

IF there's only me, I'm more likely to use a Boule à Thé otherwise known as a tea infuser. This one is a rabbit.

My current favourite is Orange Pekoe.

Thank you for your views, faves and comments. I appreciate them all. HMM

I found Tip in the kitchen behind the refrigerator. I don't know how he got there and I don't remember having him before then. He's the handle of a vintage bottle opener. He'll open bottles that aren't vintage, too. He appears to be holding a beer mug and growler for Oktoberfest.

I think he's had too many bottles. He looks tipsy.

This weeks Macro Mondays theme is Member's Choice - Found In The Kitchen.

The photo above is of an object found in a great many kitchens, and is used millions of times every day. It will often leave the kitchen and travel with a family member, and sadly, often never return.

If you don’t know what it is, check back at the close of this weeks Macro Mondays entries and I will name the item for those who do not know. Remember to Think Small.

HMM.

The posted photo is of a ‘zipper’ on a zippered sandwich bag. It was taken at very high magnification, 5x on a full frame camera, and has not been cropped. The blue ‘channel’ in this photo is 1/16th of an inch high.

These bags are made of either low density or high density polyethylene, depending on their intended use. It was nearly impossible to get critical focus on the colored parts of the zipper due to their tendency to slightly fluoresce under normal light. This fluorescence causes an apparent blurring at the materials edge. At this magnification the depth of field was also razor thin. The fluorescence is what makes the colored components of the zipper look so vibrant. This vibrance also allows the two halves to appear green when properly sealed. Blue + yellow = green. If you look closely at the image, you can clearly see the texture of the clear portions of the bag at the focus plane.

I was pleasantly surprised and relieved to learn that the Macro Mondays theme for this week was to feature things "Found In the Kitchen"...one of the few rooms in the house that I still know my way around.

This offered the perfect opportunity to highlight one of my favorite cheeses. Over the years, It's nutty, velvety flavor and texture has helped to augment many a dish.

Thanks everyone for the visits, comments and faves.

Happy Macro Monday!

A fresh picked bowl of carrots showed up in the kitchen tonight, perfect.

Macro Mondays 'In the kitchen' theme.

This is part of the handle of my puerh pick - it is bound with brightly coloured threads and has beads as adornments. I placed it on a piece of kitchen foil to get the reflection.

I don't actually drink puerh tea, I bought this because it's decorative and I thought it might come in handy as a photo prop. :o)

The part of the subject in the image measures approx 3 cm width

For this weeks #macromonday submission for #MembersChoiceFoundintheKitchen, I spent a few minutes with a kitchen utensil best known for it's uncanny resemblance to Gilbert Godfrey.

"Things are different today,"

I hear ev'ry mother say

Cooking fresh food for a husband's just a drag

So she buys an instant cake and she burns her frozen steak

And goes running for the shelter of a mother's little helper

And two help her on her way, get her through her busy day

Das ist zwar nicht die kleine gelbe Pille, aber dieses grüne Gerät macht es manchmal auch einfacher...

Macro Mondays: Member's Choice - Found in the Kitchen

This week’s theme of the Macro Mondays group is “things found in the kitchen”. Why would I go into the kitchen except to fetch a beer? This bottle cap is from the latest incarnation of Firestone Walker’s Luponic Distortion series, where the brewer tries out different hops. This brand new batch, Rev. 007, uses Australian hops.

The contents of the bottle met with my approval.

My dictionary has no words between lupine and lupus, but hops are called humulus lupulus in Latin. The plant belongs to the Cannabaceae family — yes, hops are a not so distant relative of hemp...

An old tea ball on a hot electric stove-top, with just a bit of water on the burner. I was hoping to have a small puff of steam at the base of the tea ball. No steam in this shot, but my next shot was so steamy you could not see the burner. I knew my wife would not be happy if I wasted more water and electricity for the sake of art plus the old ball and chain was getting pretty hot, so I went with this shot. HMM

First shots with my brand new Oshiro 60mm f/2.8 2:1 SUPER Macro Lens (ALL MANUAL, hence no lens exif info) which came yesterday...

Interesting lens...

Am looking forward to putting it through its paces in the coming days, weeks and months... :-)

Detail of the remnants of a juiced blood orange, still on the (blue) juicer. It tasted much better than it looks!

For this shot I had to really think long and hard. Since I didn't want to shoot a casual kitchen item. I first wanted to use some quinoah, pasta and rice to make something nice, but then I noticed this garden spider hanging in front of the window of our kitchen.

So technically she's part of our kitchen, thus I took the shot.

I never got this close up to a spider with this specific lens, but my goodness, have I been struck with awe when I saw those details.

Everybody have a blast with this theme and see you next week!
