"9 platforms where you can meet new people in your city"

“Don’t talk to strangers” is advice we all received as kids. However, talking to strangers in adulthood is pretty much a day-to-day activity. Also, when socialising halted due to the covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns, meeting strangers now offers a lot of excitement. As you get to make connections, network and meet like-minded people online.

Creating a group for people with the same interests is fun. Wondering how you can do this online, then look no further because we have compiled 9 best platforms where you can meet new people in your city.

Bylde

1:

Bylde is a website where you can create a group and plan meetups through it. You can also sell your event tickets through Bylde. People looking to join communities

For people looking to find others with same-interests, bylde has a lot of groups you can join based on your interests. I would recommend you to give a try at this website. It won't disappoint you because this is the best online platform amongst all where you can create a group easily, manage it at an affordable cost and grow your community.

2: Meetup

Meetup has a lot of groups based in cities across the globe. If you are looking to connect with people in your city, you can find groups here.

If you are specifically interested in meeting someone who has the same interest as you have then you can find people through meetup. If you are single and trying to find a friend, there are many possibilities that you can find a date, but yes it's not a dating site. Meetup is a safe app and can be used by anyone from anywhere in the world. But Meetup has high costing compared to other meetup apps.

3:Eventbrite

On Eventbrite, you can find local events happening near you. Eventbrite is a ticketing website where you can market your event and sell tickets from the website but it will have a service charge on each ticket. Eventbrite charges a commission of (3.5%+ $1.79) behind every ticket you sell.

However, you can find big events going live and also create events for big audiences here. It is most helpful for users who can find a variety of events that are happening nearby like some organized party, classes, etc. So if you plan to sell tickets to events or get a ticket for live events, Eventbrite is the best platform you can look into.

4: Nextdoor

It is like social media where you can share with your local community. It is made for those people who want to always keep in touch with neighbors.

The registration is simple where you can just register it from your email address. It is very safe to share anything with your neighbours but you have to verify your name and address. It's a new way to connect with your neighbors. It was launched in the United States and is available in 11 countries. The best thing about Next Door is it's free to use.

5:Bumble BFF

Bumble, known for a dating app, can also be used for finding new meaningful friends. You just need to set up your account and a nice bio according to your lifestyle. The matching is done according to your choices where you will be matched to your potential partner.

But it takes a lot of right swipe to get a perfect match. It's a fun and quirky type of app but doesn’t perform many security checks. So, you might not know exactly who is speaking from the other side so be safe while using this app. Bumble is free of cost so try your luck you might find a friend if you are lucky.

6: We3

We3 is not a dating app and using it is safe. We3 will automatically match 3 people at a time where at first you can't see the profile picture. But the gender will be the same of all three who get matched. So if you are bored chatting with one person try this app and you can have a group chat. Check out the reviews before you try this app so you get to know what's exactly different in this app.

7:Smacktive

Smacktive app helps you find people in your local area to do some activities with. For example, you can find Gym buddies, sports players or people for a friendship. This app is quite simple to use where you can chat instantly and you can find people up to 100 miles from you. You can look for people with common interests. It's a free app so download and enjoy. This app is useful for those people who are looking for common interests and not a group meetup.

8:Travel pal

If you are traveling to a new place then by using Travel pal you can find locals to guide you, show you around and also hosts that list their places for travellers to stay.

As a host, you can share your house with travelers and help them. The platform is similar to Airbnb.

By making a good gesture like sharing a meal with locals, you will make a lot of friends. You can use this app while traveling to new places and locations at regular times.

Green Change hosted a Clean Energy Meetup in Mill Valley on June 12, 2019.

This community meetup was moderated by Fabrice Florin and featured these guest speakers:

• Ryan Maecker from Marin Clean Energy (MCE) on their Deep Green 100% Renewable Electricity

• Alexandra Ramey from Rising Sun Center for Opportunity on their Green House Call Service

We presented three climate actions that people can take to use clean energy in their own homes:

• Use Renewable Electricity

• Get a Home Energy Checkup

• Install Solar Panels

After the talks, we discussed our personal experiences about using clean energy in our homes and connected experts with people who are just getting started. Solar energy developer David Kunhardt shared helpful tips about installing solar panels and answered questions from participants considering this home improvement. Other participants shared practical information about using renewable energy in their own lives and helping their communities do the same.

This free community event took place at the Sewerage Agency of Southern Marin (SASM) at 450 Sycamore Avenue in Mill Valley, across from the MV Middle School.
