Gathered in front of the Bob Julian Roundhouse at the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer, Southern EMD locomotives 6133 (FP7), 6900 (E8), 2601 (GP30) and 3170(SD40) bask in the evening sunshine on the first day of the Southern Railway Historical Association convention, Friday May 13. The SRHA was started here 30 years ago, in a meeting room in the Master Mechanic's office in 1986. The locomotives will also be featured around the Museum grounds for NCTM's "Train Day" festivites on Saturday the 14th.

Someone abandoned their motorhome along Interstate 10 in Riverside County. It's become a substrate for street art. This originally had tires and an engine but they're now gone. Even the disc brakes have been picked off of the chassis. Ten years ago, this never happened. Now, it has become common.

My understanding is that towing companies often don't want to touch these vehicles. I think abandoned vehicles, when towed, rack up storage charges. The owner may claim the vehicle and pay towing and storage charges. If the owner does not claim it and vehicle were saleable, the towing company can sell the towed car after acquiring title. If you tow a recent model car and this occurs, it works out well for the tow company. They can't sell these motorhomes because they're garbage. I expect the state, county, or city government would have to pay for disposal. It's parked on a public roadway and no one else would.

...A whole lot of risks — the risks of layoff, the risks of job-stopping illness — lots of risks that we were previously helped to bear by business and government have been shifted to our backs and the backs of our families. I don't think that Americans realize the extent to which that shift has occurred.

SD18 Glen Morris Hotel, 1844

474 East River Rd.

The hotel offered lodging and food, a bar and a livery stable. In 1888, through funds from the Penny Readings Society, a mechanic’s institute was established. The old bar room became a reading and recreation room with books, magazines and board games. In 1910, owner Robert Rose bequeathed the building to the village that, through a bylaw, changed the Institute to a public library. In 1971, extensive renovations were done so that the library could remain part of the village heritage.

I can only imagine the number of times that wall on the left has been hit. This was shot from the drivers side window of my truck and I'm not zoomed in at all. It's a tough turn not only because you have to watch the drivers side of the trailer but you have to make sure the right corner of the trailer does not hit the yellow corner on the right. Did I mention you have to look out for the workers on forklifts or those mechanic's running around in those silent electric carts? You also need to be careful of the two train tracks!

The AMG engines are predominantly hand-assembled in the engine factory in Affalterbach – each engine is assembled by a single mechanic according to the "one man – one engine" principle. The final step is the affixing of the plaque bearing the mechanic's signature.

Stranded in the middle of nowhere, a lonely city boy waits nervously at a rundown interstate gas station down south for his car to be fixed. An old Civic can only take so much after being driven aimlessly from Columbus to nowhere. He’d been running away after being dumped on Valentine’s day by his love — or at least he thought it was love. Not even sure why he hadn’t thrown the flowers away yet.

He checks his watch. It’s been 2 hours already! Looks across and notices the mechanic’s really takin his time. And damn, he looked good doing it too. The boy can almost see the glimmering Ohio river run down in beads of sweat along the the man’s exposed torso. Couldn’t understand much from his face since half was covered by that darn cowboy hat, but the mechanic’s hand was holding a large tool — just not one for fixin cars. The boy looks up and makes eye contact. Was that a wink? He offers the man an awkward smile. Little did he know that it wouldn’t just be a smile he’d be getting in return.

Went on a trip through Utah. Spent a lot of time in Bryce and Red canyon. It was fun but very cold.

Even on a trip to photograph nature and landscapes, the street photographer cant help but photograph a bunch of Big Rigs lined up in the parking lot of a diesel mechanic's garage, as I pumped gas, in Panguitch, Utah

Wanted to try a small layout for the Beetle so I asked for some help in the Builder Improvement Initiative Discord server (and received some fantastic advice along the way). A Mechanic's shop was suggested, but I decided on a more "homey" garage instead. Computer monitor is inspired by Chris McVeigh's from the Elf Clubhouse set.

Im getting my car fixed way too often, so that I'm starting to get to know my mechanic's cats... but it's okay'ish ;) :)

Detail of a door in old building at Sedan in South Australia captured in a design, story below.

The story behind the picture: Traveling Australia, while my husband tried to get the car exhaust fixed I wandered around taking photographs of some of the old buildings, many deserted. The car was eventually mended with a bush mechanic's "part": a drinks can, both ends removed, "fitted" & wired on over the cracked exhaust (much admired by later mechanics). I feel this design has potential use as a theatre backdrop &/or wallpaper.

Ever seen inside a pocketwatch?

I hadn't, until recently.

Opened one up, saw all the spinny bits and metronome gears, and was completely flabbergasted.

It's art. It really is. They're all different. They all have a strange and tiny world within, a mechanic's dream.

Changed a few small things and I'm actually really liking it as it is, but I'll still likely redo the Volksrod! Wheel design is from Adam.

Standing high amongst the buildings in Altoona were the Altoona Machine Shops. This complex that sat adjacent to the main line included the Machine Shops, the Tank and Air Brake Shop as well. The Altoona Railroader's Museum exists in this location now, being housed in what was formerly the Master Mechanic's Building.

This is an image of Mechanic's Dam built in the early n1700 to power a mill .It was built in the shape of a horseshoe . It was much to my surprise when I learned RI was a textile state and machines were brought from England to the weave the fabric . RI is rather flat state , the highest point being only 812 feet . It is said that RI has only one true water fall and even then it is a very small fall . I had hoped to shoot this scene with a slow shutter speed but due to the snowy condition and numerous branches I was concerned that I might take a fall caring the tripod . Therefore he effect is of rushing water . Actually that may be appropriate for without a fast flow the mill couldn't operate . Many of the mill buildings are gone but the dams remain . Hal

I spotted this sign on a mechanic's service truck with a utility body. The company advocates we, "think 24/7." Doesn't leave much time for sleep, does it?

Supervisor: "Why did the accident occur?"

Worker: "I was sleepy after thinking all night last night — per company instructions."

I'm trying to think — but nothing happens!

Excerpt from Old Oakville Walking Guide:

Justus Wright Williams House (1850), 295 King Street:

Justus Williams and his wife Nancy Aikman, came to Oakville in the year 1831. They bought two lots on Colborne Street, east of Dunn Street and there built a store from which they sold hardware, dry goods and medicines.

The family moved to this home on King Street in 1850.

Justus Williams was a Methodist and a Temperance worker, helping to build the Temperance Hall in 1843.

He was in charge of Oakville’s first Board of Health in 1834, a Trustee of Oakville Common School in 1836. He became vice president of the Mechanic’s Institute in 1852. A Justice of the Peace for Trafalgar Township, on the incorporation of Oakville as a town in 1857, he became Town Treasurer, serving in that capacity until his death, at age 77, in 1875.

Financial District, San Francisco

A Federation house, circa 1916, with a slate roof.

Discovered today along Pibrac Avenue, Warrawee, in Sydney.

Friday, 20th November, 2020.

Warrawee is a suburb of situated between Wahroonga and Turramurra, on the upper North Shore of Sydney. The name 'Warrawee' is believed to have come from an Aboriginal word meaning 'rest a while, stop here or to stand'. The suburb has a great deal of architectural history, with a number of houses designed by prominent architects. The earliest significant homes were Pibrac (1888), Cheddington (1890) and Wirepe (1893).

Anyway, I was there this morning for my first "walk" with the Turramurra walking group (a Heart Foundation walking group), followed by superb coffee from the very funky Kipling's Garage Bar Cafe, at Turramurra. This is an old motor mechanic's garage that has been converted into a cafe!!

And next week I am venturing aboard a walking group in Killara. So I will need to locate the East Killara shops, being the starting point.

And I also belong to the Wahroonga walking group which starts at the cool 'Patina Cafe'.

Working from home does have its advantages in terms of time flexibility. But who knows when we will all be ordered back to the office!!

Had this sat on my shelf for ages after building it, but wanted to get a good picture of it to edit and upload as I'm very proud of the build and want to do it justice! Hope you all enjoy this!
