Prescott, Ontario is a small town on the north shore of the Saint Lawrence River in the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, Canada. In 2016, the town had a population of 3965. The Ogdensburg–Prescott International Bridge, 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) east of Prescott at Johnstown, connects the town with Ogdensburg, New York. The town is about an hour from both Ottawa and Kingston.

Caught this nice 1970 MC at my mechanic's house that I had to get some pics of. Crappy phone camera doesn't do well in low light but I tried to save it in post.
The never ending supply of (vaguely) Italian cars at this mechanic's shop continues. This appears to be a Fiat 1100D, made under license in India. They've been working on it for several weeks now. No idea how it ended up in San Francisco.
As a brakeman out of Alliance on the local, I managed a glorious Indian Summer day laying over in this small time division point on the "south line" between Alliance and Laurel (Montana) via Casper and the Wind River Canyon. Still pure CB&Q except for the green on the mechanic's truck and the pair of SD9's which probably occupied this roundhouse track many times before - probably the power on the local I had worked. Coal trains wouldn't start running this route for a couple years, after the "Orin Line" was completed through the Powder River Basin to connect with this route at Bridger Junction.
When the last bird is gone we will make them out of soup cans and learn to chirp...

It might not be a romantic novel by Danielle Steel, but that doesn't make it any less of a love story. And, like many true love stories, it started many decades ago, and continues through to today. But, it's not the traditional man meets girl, and they fall madly in love, rather this is a love that many of us share, and that of the love of a beautiful automobile. And, as Paul Wilson, the owner and builder of this marvelous example put it, "In the late 1930s the fastest, most advanced, most beautiful sports car in the world was the Alfa 8C2900B, or “2.9.” So, of course, I wanted one."
But, like so many of us, and for Paul who wants something that's out of reach we can either just keep lusting and dreaming of it, or do something crazy like Paul did. And Paul, with his untrained mechanic's and sheet metal forming hands did just that and built his dream car.
The process started in the seventies, and piece by piece, dream by dream, and over many decades the dream became a reality. It all started when he found a 1948 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 in a salvage yard along with two others knowing that spare parts would be hard to come by, and better to own them than to not. The cars were very rough, but he only wanted the chassis and drive train, and that would be his starting point...the body would be his own, and it would be fashioned in the likeness of the Art Deco designed cars he loved. The project took years to completion, and to what you see here. Often times it would sit in his garage for months and years as he found parts to use that would suit his design. The rear fenders, for example, came off a 1937 Lincoln Zephyr, and the rear roof line was harvested off a 1947 Buick Sedanet. Much of the sheet metal was hand formed, and without the skills and knowledge of doing that it became a "learn as you go" process. But, in the end, mechanically and aesthetically, it all came together as a true one-off magnificent beauty! One would be hard pressed to think this beautifully crafted "work of art" did not come from the Figoni Et Falaschi, or Jean Bugatti studios! So, my friends, this is a true love story!

Skippy was inspired by the following incredibly made creations:
NOMAD's Repurposed Barn!
CONVAIR's Pulley Lamp!
kunst's Vintage oiler, mechanic's cloth, mallet, and coiled wire!
Apple Fall's Bluebell Fencing and Flagstones!
Kalopsia's Silver Rocking Horse!
BAMSE's Destiny Helmet!
BENJAMINZ's Hunter's Rifle!
A while back I saw a LEGO bike using the Technic pulley wheels and then I couldn't find it again. I remembered the rough shape and decided to build a version . I managed to find the original inspiration, a great build by CK TSang (so credit to him of course) flic.kr/p/GA7d6x although I have used a few different methods and parts to create the bike. I have breakdown instructions for the bike.
This one is further evidence - I hope - that all that "expert" advice to cull your non-keepers is somewhere between misguided and outright stupid. I couldn't figure out how to make this one look good almost six years and two cameras ago, but I recently stumbled upon it and I think I've made something pretty good out of it.
The problem was that the curved lines in the right two-thirds of the image were too faint for me. I had no idea how to solve that problem in Photoshop in 2014. I solved it the other day, using a technique I devised for myself a couple of weeks ago.
I love the curved lines, and how they contrast with the horizontal rectilinear lines rather in the background, products, I imagine, of cutting or smoothing the slabs. I hope you like it too. If you do, you might check out that Tennesse Sandstone album, for a few somewhat similar shots.
This is another shot of a slab of Tennessee Sandstone, a product I found at a nearby stone supplier. The various patterns in the slabs fascinated me, and the yard was a short walk from my mechanic's, so I'd leave the car for service, and wander around the stone yard for a couple of hours looking for good abstracts.
Why I had the 50mm with me on this day instead of a macro is a puzzle; perhaps it was new and I wanted to check it out.
Still going through the process of organizing my files between my older (but reliable) iMac and my newer (but on the quirky side) new iMac. Stumbled across this picture of my mechanic's A/AA Super Stock Vega. The owner of C & K Auto, Ken Heavens has been my "go to" man for several years whenever I run into car problems. He's always been right with me. He's old school with 'new school' knowledge. In other words if he can "fix" or repair something as opposed to "replacing the whole component", he'll go that direction.
I've never actually seen his car run (on the strip) but have heard it run in his shop. He's got a highly beefed 355 stroker under the hood. Told me the car runs in the low 10's but on one occasion he managed to pull off a 9:96ET.
Just thought I would post this for what's it's worth.
