Mecca, Indiana (Parke County)

Led by a 70MAC overhaul, L452 splits the B&O intermediates at New Elizabtehtown. Standing ominously next to the CPLs is a modern Safetran replacement mast, awaiting activation. On November 13th, all the signals between Seymour and Mitchell were cut over, eliminating about half of the CPLs still active across the Indiana subdivision. With new replacement bases already appearing for the remaining CPLs between Butlerville and Lawrenceburg, the clock is ticking for the B&O Mecca that is the Indiana Subdivision.

A rare Imperial Valley rainstorm has covered the ground in thick, sludgy mud here at Mecca, 187 feet below sea level. On slightly higher and much drier ground, UP ZMQLC 17 blasts through the west end of Mecca siding.

to know more about it please watch the link my trip there :

The rear DPU on ZLAJX 16 passes under the SP cantilever signal at the west end of Mecca siding. These signals were some of the last searchlight holdouts on the Yuma Subdivision, but were removed a short time later. This train is headed to CSX interchange and will eventually go all the way to Jacksonville, FL, returning this engine to home rails.

The Tchor Minor (from Persian: ‘four minarets’ چار منار ), or Khalif Niazkhoul medersa, is a building in the historic centre of Bukhara in Uzbekistan that was built in 1807 with funds from a wealthy Turkoman merchant, Khalif Khoudoïd.

The medersa (or madrassa) was originally built around a courtyard, two sides of which were reserved for the cells (fifty-nine at the time) of the students of Koranic science.

The medersa's surviving entrance pavilion is what makes it so special, as it is topped by towers at each of its four corners, each crowned with a turquoise dome and symbolising a city: Mecca, Ourguentch, Termez and Denaou [1]. Although they do not have the same function, their shape is reminiscent of a minaret, hence the name given to the building.

With Easter upon us, I always enjoy watching the film the Ten Commandments, as Moses leads the people out of Egypt after 400 years of bondage. They had their long quest, and I have mine: for years now, I've been on the quest to try to find a Union Pacific train with a clean locomotive! As you can imagine, like Moses, it has been a long and difficult journey. UP, like the Pharaoh, has done everything in its power to stop me. But I have persevered, and on April 18, I reached the end of my journey. Union Pacific finally gave in, opened the gates at West Colton, Calif., and released an eastbound train with a semi-clean leader! I was in Palm Springs, but rushed to the Salton Sea area, where the waters parted and the train cruised through a series of S-curves at North Shore! With tongue firmly in cheek, let us praise the Railfan Gods who made it happen!

i had to process it this much to hide the grain and noise in the original one

While cleaning up my hard-disk for space today, found this picture which I took long back. some how missed to upload. Its clich'ed, I know .. but just thought of posting this silhouette along with my other silhouette picture of the day.

Hiking up Ladder Canyon in the Mecca Hills Wilderness north of Salton Sea requires ascending 4 unsecured ladders between twisting narrow passages.

This is one of the doors to the El Mecca Club. The double doors confuses me as this was never any kind of garage. The facade doesn't even hint at that. I found this place the darnedest thing I'd seen in a while. Now I wish I had taken a full frontal, but the light was going fast and I had much to do. The Brown Bottle, posted earlier, is next door. Commercial Street, Waterloo, Iowa

OMG Mecca....u're so tiny....

PS: really dunno how this is done!!cause my pc video is fucked up, and i see all brightned!!!!

The old Locarno Ballroom building in Sale, another fabulous old 1930s building now a Mecca bingo.

Rather than manipulate the leaning building I've kept it as the lens see's it, thought its adds something to the shot ????

The SP cantilever signal at the west end of Mecca siding. This was one of the last ones to be replaced on the Yuma Sub, hanging on until at least 2017. The juxtaposition of palm trees and snow-capped mountains makes for an unusual backdrop.
