Thank you so very much for your kind and meaningful support. You are all so amazing to me and I appreciate your every gesture of kindness and and encouragement.
Lately I been, I been losing sleep
Dreaming about the things that we could be
But baby I been, I been prayin' hard
Said no more counting dollars
We'll be counting stars
Yeah, we'll be counting stars
I see this life
Like a swinging vine
Swing my heart across the line
In my faces flashing signs
Seek it out and ye shall find
The old, but I'm not that old
Young, but I'm not that bold
And I don't think the world is sold
I'm just doing what we're told
I, feel something so right
Doing the wrong thing
I, feel something so wrong
But doing the right thing
I could lie, could lie, could lie
Everything that kills me makes me feel alive
A meaningful and beautiful 2021 for all friends on Flickr. May your photographic creativity blossom, and may you all stay safe.
Abstracting anything meaningful to focus on, we are compelled to consider the landscape free from narrative bonds. To imagine what might have been, in the space between reality and dreams. Nothing physical is eternal.
Canon fd 50mm f1.2L @ f1.5 (Zeiss b-speed mod)
This is a lens I bought cheaply due to a damaged and non-working aperture. I'd previously removed the aperture blades and used the lens in some early shots as a fixed f1.2 to nice effect, though decided to add a fixed reuleaux triangle aperture to emulate the look of the early Zeiss b-speed cine lenses used by Stanley Kubrick. I may create a blog about how I did this, as the improvement from f1.2 and against my Canon fd 50mm f1.4 with regards to sharpness, aberrations, optical vignetting, bokeh and transition is quite something.
Some people may find the triangles distracting, but I like it, and Kubrick chose to use the Zeiss stopped down, where he could have used the lens wide open and had circular bokeh. So maybe he liked it too.
Worth noting, the lens focuses perfectly well. I'm deliberately defocusing here with an eye toward abstract art, and look forward to posting more photos taken with it.
It feels great to slow down sometimes and having deep and meaningful conversations with good friends.
Refreshing...

Sometimes it’s easy to get carried away with our so-called accomplishments. We spend our lifetimes collecting achievements, earning praise and recognition, and seeking approval – so much so that we lose sight of what is truly meaningful.
If being peaceful and loving are your primary goals, then why not redefine your most meaningful accomplishments as being those that support and measure qualities such as kindness and happiness?
Rather than being consumed exclusively with external accomplishments, try putting more emphasis on what’s really important. When you redefine what it means to achieve a meaningful accomplishment, it helps you to stay on your path.

Wood Ducks are one of the most beautiful ducks in the world. This is the showy male, having just taken flight and trailing some water droplets. Unlike other ducks, they give little or no tells when they are about to take off, making flight shots more meaningful when I can get one. I was luck this day and managed to get a few. (Aix sponsa)
Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
Thank you Annielle Destiny for posing with me and admiring my Short Leash collar

Early Happy Caturday!
Cheetahs are caring, affectionate and dedicated mothers. They spend a long time caring for their cubs. Cubs typically stay with their mothers for one and a half to two years.
The cheetah originated over 4 million years ago. That’s long before any of the other big cats of today. They used to be found in North America when they crossed the Bering land bridge from Asia to the Americas before becoming extinct.
The cheetah is the fastest land animal in the world, reaching speeds of up to 113km/h. They can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 3 seconds. When running, cheetahs use their tail to steer, like a rudder for a boat.Cheetahs are the only large cat that can turn in mid-air while sprinting.
Cheetahs do not roar like lions, however they do have a range of other meaningful vocalisations such as purring, growling and a variety of contact calls which resemble bird-like chirping sounds. -Wikipedia

Introduction
christian short film | "Only the Perfected Can Live a Meaningful Life"
Almighty God says, "Those who have been perfected are not just able to achieve obedience after being conquered, but they are also able to have knowledge of the work of judgment, change their disposition, and know God. They experience the path of loving God and are filled with the truth. They know how to experience God’s Work, are able to suffer for God, and have their own wills. …The perfected refers to those who, after the conquering work ends, are able to pursue the truth and be gained by God. It refers to those who, after the conquering work ends, stand firm in tribulation and live out the truth."

Some Kisses are Given With the Eye
The meaning of the phrase is similar to 'the look of love' in the sense that you can often read someone's depth of feelings towards you by the look in their eyes. ... Receiving a 'loving' look from someone you care about makes you feel happy and cared for.
Now, researchers have concluded that “The Look of Love” is, indeed, all in the eyes: looking directly at someone makes you more attractive to them.
So, if your partner is looking deeply and comfortably into your eyes, it communicates a lot about their desire. “Eye contact is an intimate and vulnerable act, so intense eye contact can be very meaningful"
“Deep eye contact, or holding your gaze for at least four seconds, may indicate feelings of love.”
l'ironie du sort ..
Things are badly done, they get ruined, they break. Abandonment makes them unusable and only love, perhaps, repairs them. Love, with its interlocking, giving and receiving, makes the puzzle of life meaningful.

Japanese gardens were originally designed for Buddhist monks to meditate to attain enlightenment.
The round window of Meigetsu'in facing its garden is probably the most famous window in Japan. It became well-known on SNS for looking typically Zen. It is nicknamed "Satori no Mado (悟りの窓)" meaning "window of enlightenment."
For most of the Japanese including myself, Zen is perceived as something that seems meaningful but actually incomprehensible. The term Zen Mondou (禅問答) or Zen Riddle is often meant for discussions that don't mesh well, are pointless, fruitless, and time-consuming.
It is a Zen principle that enlightenment should be "grok"ed by Furyuu Monji (不立文字) i.e. not being based on the letters (language).
Passion is universal humanity. Without it religion, history, romance and art would be useless.

the sun came out just at the right moment, the whole day it had been cloudy... remembering a beautiful meaningful dream last night.
I would love to put a meaningful message here but to be completely honest, I found this Shibe in my inventory from ages ago while I was making this and the narrative wrote itself. I believe this was an Epiphany event product several years back when Gacha was a thing, and honestly I couldn't have asked for a better prince!

Yesterday while mowing the lawn I finished listening to "When Breath Becomes Air" for the second time. Nothing like bawling your eyes out while walking behind a power mower. The book is such a beautiful testament to figuring out how to live a meaningful life. Paul Kalanathi, the author, was a brilliant man and I am grateful he found meaning and drive to share his story. Start today and examine your life, where do you find meaning and purpose? No one can define your values for you, this takes work, time, and self-reflection. It's like the quote “The trouble is, you think you have time” from Jack Kornfield's Buddha's Little Instruction Book we skitter away our time mindlessly. Today I slowed down, breathed, sipped tea and enjoyed the sunlight in the crisp morning air.
May all that is beautiful and meaningful brings you joy and be yours this holiday season and throughout the coming years...
I can't describe how beautiful and meaningful this encounter was for me amidst all the horrible things both our governments, here in the US and also in Finland, are currently implementing to eradicate wolves and other big predators of these countries from this planet! World has gone crazy with hatred and demonizing of these animals for their natural behaviors that are crucial to ecosystems!
Disconnect from nature is a real thing today, misinformation and fear heavily instilled in people's minds by ranching and hunting groups. Scientists and biologists with their fact-based research are not listened to. Majority of Americans and Finns, including ranchers and those who live close to wolves, do not support the senseless killings. Yet our opinions don't matter. Yet the war on these innocent beings who have as much right to live on this planet as humans do, is happening. It's heartbreaking.
My encounter was not with a wolf but with a little bit smaller, wolf like, magical creature - coyote. I have been seeing their tracks, scat, urine markings and yes, bloody pieces of rabbit and squirrel fur on the ground for weeks. Yesterday morning when once again surveying the landscape in nearby nature area I was delighted to see a coyote jogging towards me. I quickly kneeled down in the snow, waiting for the coyote to get closer. And she did. She came within twenty yards (or meters) of me before stopping and giving me this look. Telling me I was in her way, where she wanted to go. I looked at her, my heart melting. I admired her presence, wild nature and pure innocence. Oh, the intelligence and wisdom in those amber eyes!
She turned around and jogged few yards to where she came from before turning towards me again. I got up slowly so not to scare her and begin walking away. She watched me go a safe distance before resuming her original path. Be safe, precious one, for your predator brothers and sisters are not safe anymore.

A couple of summers ago, I witnessed the most meaningful ceremony I've ever seen. My friend G married her longtime love. And before I go on... a word about their love.
It's something you can feel when you walk into their house. It emanates... not just from them, but from the house itself... the furniture... the animals... the garden... the bric a brac. Entering that house is like walking into some big yellow-warm sunshine embrace; it is nothing short of palpable. And seeing them together is even more powerful.
These are two people who just so clearly delight in each other's company. Like all of us, they have their share of less than stellar days, but they're strong for each other, they support one another, they complement each other... and, like I said, when you see them together, you can't help but share a little hiccup in your heart... a skip-step of giddiness. In short, if ever two people should be married, G and her love were those two people. And they're both from backgrounds that value marriage; that see it as the highest expression of togetherness.
But there was one more factor at play that made their wedding the specialest occasion. Until that year, they had not had the legal right to marry. Why? Because G and her One True Love are women. To which I say... So fucking what??
Marriage, as I understand it, is all about love and commitment. And no two people were ever more in love or more committed.
And to those who argue same-sex marriage somehow undermines the so-called sanctity of the so-called institution of marriage... I say heterosexual couples... with their soaring divorce rates, and rampant infidelity, and vicious child-custody disputes... are doing that themselves.
Besides. Why should anyone's choice of who to love... or who to marry... be anyone else's business? As long as no one's being victimized, what's the problem?
One of the arguments advanced here in Canada, where same-sex marriage is legal (for the time being, anyway)... is that, if THIS is okay, then what's next? Polygamy?
To which I say... what's the hairy issue with polygamy? If three people (or four or five or whatever) choose to form a legal bond and raise their family collectively... again, as long as no one's being victimized... what is the problem?
Oh, say the critics, but polygamy's tied to child abuse. Uh, right. That's the same thing they say about same-sex unions... based on their ludicrous assumption that all homosexuals are somehow pedophiles, or sex fiends. Ridiculous.
I've heard otherwise rational men say... I'd never go to a gay male doctor.
To which I say.... don't flatter yourself. Just because a man may be in a love with another man, that doesn't mean he's uncontrollably flinging himself at every damned man who walks through the door. I mean... I have a straight male doctor. That means... oooooohhhh.... gasp.... he has sex with women!!!! But that has absolutely nothing to do with him examining me in his professional capacity.
We have a polygamist sect here in British Columbia, and it's under near-constant scrutiny for child abuse. The allegation is that very young girls are married off to men, against their will.
To which I say... if that's the case, it's child abuse, for sure. But it's an entirely separate issue from the marital status of the parents involved.
Sorry if I'm ranting here, but this whole issue gets my knickers in a major twist. I think it's because... as one of those kids who was teased and taunted for simply being who I was... I sort of understand what it must be like to face such senseless discrimination.
We have today, in too many parts of North America, a culture that says... while most other forms of organized hate and discrimination are frowned upon... it's okay to ostracize and mistreat people... solely on the basis of who they love.
It's insane. I mean... I remember when I first encountered boys. There was an instant ZING! From that time on, I pretty much always had a crush on some boy or other and... lucky me... I was part of a majority, so having those feelings was a-okay.
The gay and lesbian people I've talked to had similar experiences somewhere in their lives.... where they felt that overwhelming sense of attraction and excitement and curiosity. But... unlucky them, they were part of a minority, and made to think that what they felt was somehow bad or wrong.
I'm on this topic today because our federal government (recently elected and right wing) is threatening to undo the same-sex marriage law. This is just the latest in a string of reversals that's included:
- killing the nearly-enacted bill that would've decriminalized marijuana
- killing an agreement with aboriginal people that would've finally begun addressing the deplorable conditions many of them live in
- reversing the country's commitment to do its part to address climate change, and
- killing a multi-year agreement with the provinces that would've made child care somewhat more affordable and accessible.
In the government's eyes, child care is bad. I mean, everyone knows mommies should stay home with their babies while daddies work. Climate change is just a bunch of made-up garbage; after all, those scientists are all a bunch of liberals. Aboriginal people... notwithstanding the fact that white people stole their land, stuck them on reserves, legislated away their rights and tore a whole generation of children away from their families and communities... Notwithstanding that, "those people" are just lazy; they just need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. As for marijuana... well, we all know it's FAR more harmful than booze, which government not only endorses but shamelessly profits from. I mean... just look at all the domestic strife, and public brawls, and armed standoffs, and traffic carnage caused by those crazed, violent potheads. And those humsexuals... well. We can't deport them 'cause they're from here (darnit anyway). But we sure as hell owe it to the citizenry to make sure they're denied the most fundamental of human rights... the right to freely love.
I'm sorry if this is a downer but I'm sick at heart for my country today. I fear where we're going and I feel so helpless... watching our common sense progress slip away.
I guess I should just be glad that G and her One True Love are already married... and no one... not even right wing governments... can take what they have away from them.
