Bigton and beyond, from Scousburgh Hill, Shetland. In the foreground Ellister, Da Runn, and Middltoon, on the road to Maywick. The snow cap in the distance is Ronas Hill, about forty miles away.
May Goudie in a yard at Ireland, Bigton. So I guess this is Marjory Laurenson (b. 18 Nov 1854, Maywick, Bigton, Shetland, d 17 Aug 1940, Virkie, m. James Goudie, Fairy Knowe, Dunroness, Shetland, 1847-1889)
This was quite a surprising find in Bigton today! Having vanished in 2014 and spent the past 3 years in a shed, ex Halcrows of Cunningsburgh Volvo B10M Plaxton Paramount turned up out of the blue in a private farm in Maywick, Bigton in the south mainland and is hopefully looking a new owner having been turned down by a few scrappies and was due to be turned into a campervan. Now it currently remains as a storeshed in Bigton pending a decision on its future.
It was new to Capital in 1985 but was acquired by Halcrows of Cunningsburgh in 2003 in a green and white livery. It lasted about 11 years and even managed to remain on the road when it was at least 29 years old however it was withdrawn in 2014. I did always wonder what happened to this old lady but now here it is!
