Al nome originario di Torre del Lago venne aggiunto, il 21 dicembre 1938, quello di Puccini, per rendere onore al compositore che qui visse e compose molte delle sue celeberrime opere liriche. La sua residenza, Villa Puccini, sorge sul belvedere del lago di Massaciuccoli ed ospita la tomba del compositore

His residence, Villa Puccini, stands on the viewpoint of Lake Massaciuccoli and houses the tomb of the composer
The village of Torre del Lago was the home of the famous Italian composer Giacomo Puccini for thirty years.
It was here, in his house on the lake, that he wrote his major works, including Tosca (1900), Madame Butterfly (1904), La Fanciulla del West (1910), La Rondine (1917) and Il Trittico (1918).

Torre del Lago (Tower of the Lake) is a town in the province of Lucca, Tuscany, Italy, between the Lake of Massaciuccoli and the Tyrrhenian Sea. The Festival Puccini, an annual opera festival which attracts around 40,000 attendees, is held in its open-air theatre, a short distance from Villa Puccini where the opera composer Giacomo Puccini lived and worked. He frequently hunted around the lake. Torre del Lago is sometimes mentioned with the suffix "Puccini" in his honour. He is buried in a small chapel inside the Villa.
