Al nome originario di Torre del Lago venne aggiunto, il 21 dicembre 1938, quello di Puccini, per rendere onore al compositore che qui visse e compose molte delle sue celeberrime opere liriche. La sua residenza, Villa Puccini, sorge sul belvedere del lago di Massaciuccoli ed ospita la tomba del compositore

The village of Torre del Lago was the home of the famous Italian composer Giacomo Puccini for thirty years.
It was here, in his house on the lake, that he wrote his major works, including Tosca (1900), Madame Butterfly (1904), La Fanciulla del West (1910), La Rondine (1917) and Il Trittico (1918).

Torre del Lago (Tower of the Lake) is a town in the province of Lucca, Tuscany, Italy, between the Lake of Massaciuccoli and the Tyrrhenian Sea. The Festival Puccini, an annual opera festival which attracts around 40,000 attendees, is held in its open-air theatre, a short distance from Villa Puccini where the opera composer Giacomo Puccini lived and worked. He frequently hunted around the lake. Torre del Lago is sometimes mentioned with the suffix "Puccini" in his honour. He is buried in a small chapel inside the Villa.

Il lago di Massaciuccoli, situato nell'omonimo comprensorio è il residuo di una laguna deltizia formata dal fiume Serchio e segregata poi dalle alluvioni del fiume stesso.
Profondo non più di due metri, il lago ospita una flora ed una fauna abbondante e di notevole interesse dal punto di vista naturalistico. Dei due centri situati sulle sponde del lago, Torre del Lago e Massaciuccoli il primo è più noto soprattutto perchè vi abitò a lungo Giacomo Puccini la cui villa sulle rive del lago è oggi un museo.
Lake Massaciuccoli, in the district of the same name, is the remains of a delta lagoon formed by the river Serchio and subsequently cut off from the river by floods.
No more than two metres deep, it is rich in flora and fauna of great interest to naturalists. Of the two towns on the shores of the lake, Torre del Lago and Massaciuccoli, the former is better known, especially because Giacomo Puccini lived there for many years and his lakeside house is now a museum.
