Day 4 of 7 of the black and white food photo challenge. I found this huge mortar and pestle on clearance at Costco earlier this year. I have to admit I haven't used it much but am ready to start spicing things up. Anyone have one? What do you use it for mostly?

Update July 2019: sadly, this shop has closed forever, after serving pie and mash for 108 years. London pie and mash shops are in sadly in steep decline.

Mash presses in one of the more modern areas of the former Molson Coors South Brewhouse, in Burton-apon-Trent. This site closed in early 2018 and is now being stripped out, this area, along with the more modern additions will soon be demolished.
What can I say for myself?
I just refuse to grow up, and sometimes still play with my food.
For this Macro Mondays theme I ressurected the mashed potato faces my daughters and I used to make on our plates, using the veggie side of dinner.
Boil up some potatoes, then mash ‘em up with some butter and milk.
Maybe add a little salt and pepper.
Decorate with peas and carrots.
Green beans are good if horns are needed.
And, don’t forget to melt a little more butter in the mouth that you’ve carved with the serving spoon.

THE MASH IS THE BEST:
Make a mash as you usually would. Sprinkle with salt & freshly ground black pepper, add a tablespoonful of dried Greek oregano, throw in a good knob of unsalted butter, fold over, and let melt.
Throw in a dozen or so black Kalamata olive (quartered), a good couple of forks full of capers, and adjust the texture with leftover cooking water. Blend with a serving spoon.
Meanwhile, start sautéeing your veggie 'sausages' — I used 'Meaty Gourmet, Classic BBQ' — in a bit of olive oil, and when they're about 1/4 done, throw in some small onion slices and let brown with the sausages.
When all's done, serve up and enjoy! :-)
We're not sure what kind of animal Fou is --- Fou is simply Fou. Fou and Mash are close companions, though.
119 in 2019 - number 41 Everyone loves pie
We don't really have a meal routine in our household … there are only 2 of us. But today I just fancied pie and mash for lunch, so that's what we had :) Now I'm a stuffed bunny, so must go walk off the food in a mo :))
Chicken and Ham Hock Pie from Asda, along with wonky veg. Eastbourne Asda sell a wonky veg box for £3.50 and it's brilliant, veg just like I remember as a kid.
They played the monster mash;
