The imposing Liberation Hall was commissioned by King Louis I to commemorate the battles fought against Napoleon during the Wars of Liberation and was completed in 1863. The impressive rotunda has a height of 45 and a diameter of 29 m and is illuminated in the interior by a glass dome.
The Atrium of Abbot Argerich is the open-roofed courtyard area that sits directly in front of the Basilica. Five arches lead you to the main area. [see 3 images below + 9 sec vid of church bells ringing].
The marbled black and white floor of the atrium takes inspiration from the floor of the Capitolium in Rome that was designed by Michelangelo. The inscriptions at the centre are Latin and refer to baptism. Summarized from:

the galleria vittorio emanuele II in milan becomes a stage where light and shadow perform a daily ballet. The sun dips low, casting a radiant glow that dances across the marble and touches each passerby with warmth. A visitor stands still, capturing the moment, while around her the movement of the crowd blurs into the background. It's a scene of timeless elegance in the heart of milan, where history is bathed in the golden hours of the present.
Just one area of countless many more marble walkways and floors that make up the ancient city of Pompeii in Italy.
My eye was taken with this once smooth and polished surface, now weather-worn and aged - but in its own way equally as beautiful as when it was first mined, prepared and laid down for those feet to walk upon, almost two thousand years ago.

beneath the quiet choreography of shadows, a small lion takes the stage. every step measured, every curl deliberate. the floor stretches vast and pale like a theatre, while light and silence watch from above. his tail sways. his kingdom listens.
The uneven surface of marble floor inside the Ashton Memorial provides a rippled reflection of the unusual sunlight passing through the hazy cloud cover. This shot utilises a polarised filter over the lens.
We were going in for early voting and inside this community centre was this simple abstract pattern, that was crying out to be photographed.
One of several projects, that explore photography as evidence amongst other ideas.

Kedleston Hall
An extravagant temple to the arts. Commissioned in the 1750s by Nathaniel Curzon whose ancestors had resided at Kedleston since the 12th century. The house is framed by historic parkland and boasts opulent interiors intended to impress.
Designed for lavish entertaining, Kedleston Hall displays an extensive collection of paintings, sculptures and original furnishings reflecting both the tastes of its creators and their fascination with the classical world of the Roman Empire.
Inherited by George Nathaniel Curzon, Viceroy of India between 1899 and 1905, the hall also houses the many objects he amassed during his travels in South Asia and the Middle East, and in his role leading British rule in India.

Marble Hall
Twenty fluted pink Nottingham alabaster columns with Corinthian capitals support the heavily decorated, high-coved cornice.
Niches in the walls contain casts of classical statues by Matthew Brettingham the Younger and others.
The floor is of inlaid Italian marble.
Nikolaus Pevsner describes this hall as one of the most magnificent apartments of the 18th century.
Another view of the courtyard at the Medersa Bou Inaniya in the old medina of Fes, of which I had posted a few pics earlier. The little bridge on the left leads to the prayer hall which was in use during my visit.
Continuing my short series of rather moody looking pics :-)
(Should you enlarge the pic, the pc or smartphone may take a while to show the astounding amount of fine detail)

I've always loved Tressy's Black Magic, so this summer I made a replica outfit, including dress, gloves, shawl and pearl necklace. Also made the paneled wall and the marble floor as I wanted a kind of neutral setting to my fashion pics.
So my habit of saving cookie boxes finally makes sense. White glue, some painting, crack filler and floor wax and you have a cute marble floor for your dolls.
This stunning photo captures the grandeur of the Palazzo Madama in Turin. The hall features intricate ceiling frescoes, ornate wall decorations, and a checkered marble floor. The opulent chandeliers and classical busts add to the historical ambiance, making it a must-visit for art and history enthusiasts.
Main hallway of the century old College of Fine Arts, Carnegie Mellon University. Inlaid in the marble tile floor are floor plans of several of the buildings that architect Henry Hornbostel considered to be the greatest in history. The summer music student just walked through the Greek Parthenon. Ahead of him is Chartres Cathedral in France, and further down the hallway is the Egyptian Temple of Edfu. Should he turn left at Chartres Cathedral, he will walk through St. Peter's Basilica in Rome on the way out the front door.
