Landkärtchen

[Araschnia levana]

#Macro #MacroMondays #PushPull

One of the last 1st gen. map butterflies I saw in 2019 (last one I took was may 25)

Map butterfly

The back of its wings shows a pattern that reminds some of a spider's web (hence its Latin name: "Araschnia"), while others think of a network of roads, a "map" in other words.

There is only one place I know where I can consistently find these large turtles. I did not find out what they were called until just today.I had thought they were a larger variety of a Painted Turtle. But there coloration is different and they have grooved in maps on their shell rather than the smoother more green Painted Turtle.

Bodnant Garden is a National Trust property near Tal-y-Cafn, Conwy, Wales, overlooking the Conwy Valley towards the Carneddau mountains. Founded in 1874 and developed by five generations of one family, it was given to the National Trust in 1949.

The plane which I was on flew into Lima due to bad weather at it's original destination, Iquitos...

From there, a later plane was taken to Iquitos and the plan was to join a boat a little down river from there....( travelling down to it by canoe with small motor ). It is a recent realisation that I had travelled by plane or boat from the West Coast to the East, arriving a little south of the marked route into Belem and then up the coast to French Guiana and the Surinam border.......

La Carte géographique

Map and compass, ready for travel and discoveries

Directly behind a waterfall, lumps of ice has formed something that resembles an unfolded map of the world. At least with some imagination. Do you see it too?

I was astounded by Bill Rankin's map of Chicago's racial and ethnic divides and wanted to see what other cities looked like mapped the same way. To match his map, Red is White, Blue is Black, Green is Asian, Orange is Hispanic, Gray is Other, and each dot is 25 people. Data from Census 2000. Base map © OpenStreetMap, CC-BY-SA

A great map card from California. I think I've been to 13 of the US states and California is the state I love the most so far. ;)

Thanks Maddeleine5 for those beautiful cards! :)

A final instar Map butterfly larva attaches itself to a Stinging Nettle leaf before pupating. The Map is a butterfly of the family Nymphalidae. It is common throughout the lowlands of central and eastern Europe, and is expanding its range in western Europe.

i love maps

I never much cared for this unit once it was painted up in this scheme. Just about everything WC did turned to gold in my mind except for this beast. The flag unit was much nicer in my opinion but anyway here is 3026 leading 7510 on the OACTI at Soo Yard on February 22, 2001.

This is a map butterfly (Araschnia levana) in summer colors.

Ice formation on north branch of Boyne River, 30 January 2011.

Could this be an ancient map of the world? Some of the continents are correct but not all are shown.
