Though I do have technologically advanced cameras, I tend to prefer older cameras (all these are second-hand cameras with a 16MP sensor) and use them manually. I am not rejecting technological excellence and sophisticated algorithms. All I am saying is that I have more joy when working manually and that Fuji's old 16MP sensor is really good enough for my purposes. This shot was done with my new (ten year old) Fuji X-Pro1.
When I say I have lots of marble photo's I mean lots as in hundreds. Trouble is my decision making is poor aligned to the fact it is not something everyone enjoys. Never mind...its like music soothes the savage breast sort of thing... if you know what I mean ?

Another attempt with this old manual lens. There are some C/A tracks on contours, but the total result is good. (Small white points are by light rain drops, not lens fault)
When i was grovelling in the woods over a week ago for my first Bluebell shot of the season I have to admit age and some limitations didn't help but I do love vintage bokeh though was finding it extra difficult.. Jonathan bought this lens for my birthday which incidentally is today, because I had looked at many reviews and thought the auto focus might help in this new lens, length 135mm f/1.8.. It was ordered one day and delivered the next and in time for me to test that is was fine. So the other day when i went the first of two short walks. I was able with the Sony A7RM3 to auto focus on the flower I wished, I then had the facility to override the auto focus using manual focus DMF in the camera settings and also bought up the focus magnifier to tweak where I wanted it sharp. It definitely is not vintage but I personally still loved the painterly bokeh I was able to get but with a little help initially from the auto focus ability of the lens. The new lens is a Samyang 135mm f1.8 and I will hopefully get some portrait shots too which is one of its main strengths but I don’t use any lens conventionally tbh….

Knightstone Island was acquired by the Pigott family in 1696 (they later became the Smyth-Pigotts) and they owned it until the early 19th century. It was purchased in 1820 by Mr John Howe from Bristol. He constructed the first medicinal baths there, which were rented in 1822 by Benjamin Atwell. There were hot and cold saltwater baths, a lodging house, public refreshment rooms and a reading room. At that time the island was connected to the mainland by a natural pebble ridge, which was covered at high tide.
Reverend Thomas Pruen bought Knightstone in 1824. He commissioned the construction of a causeway to the island, which was built above the high tide level, and a low pier, which was used by pleasure boats. He also built an open-air tidal swimming pool on the shore, which was replenished by seawater at every high tide. This was extended into the current Marine Lake in 1929.
Using an enlarger or projector lens as a day-to-day lens is challenging. In case of enlarger lens, they are usually set to perform the best on certain distance to enlarge 10 times or less). They perform very well as macro and close-up lens.
I tried it as a landscape lens. (Disclaimer: I am not a landscape photographer at all). I liked it in combination with IR or ND filter.
On this photo I tried to get a vintage BW grainy look. Long exposure aide in camera was disabled. NO grain added in post-pocessing.
Being a manual photographer, I am currently trying out automatic modes by shooting from the hip. So far, the results are pretty mixed. One half of the images has to be discarded straight away because there is no kind of composition (the camera is directed towards an approximate target but often misses it). Regarding the other half, the object I am interested in is often not in sharp focus (the camera "decides" where to put the focus and frequently it is a region of strong contrast). I also noticed that my camera (Fuji X-E3) needs a bit of time to focus and was therefore not able to keep up with my more rapid decisions. Still, sometimes there is a good image emerging or, at least, what could have been a fine shot. Isn't it funny that one needs a lot of practice to do "fully automatic" photography?

CC Most Versatile - Try Something Different
CC Rainbow - Blue
I saw a video a few days ago that mentioned a camera setting that I hadn't noticed before. I set the camera profile to Monochrome and then went further into the menu to choose Blue Toning. I really liked what I saw on the LCD display. But when I downloaded the shots into Lightroom Classic I lost the blue toning, only got the monochrome. Apparently third party processors can't read all of the in-camera presets. I tried to mimic the effect using manual adjustments. So I did try something different, it just didn't work great! lol : )
I occasionally trot out an old manual-focus lens for my daily walks –– probably 4-5 times a year. Yesterday, it was a Ricoh/Rikenon 50mm 1.7 lens. I got the lens at a garage sale, pre-Covid, for $25. I think it’s from the late 1970s or early 1980s. With a #Fotodiox adapter, this K-mount lens works on my Fuji cameras.
Walking through the Gamble Garden in downtown Palo Alto, Calif., I snapped this pic. I think the lens resolves pretty well for $25, though my eyes have a tough time doing the manual focus thing. Regardless, it’s nice to see that spring has sprung.

I picked this flower from the garden this morning, and brought it indoors to photograph where it's easier to control the light.
Lighting stuff: I place a Yongnuo manual flash in a Rogue grid behind the flower at camera left for back lighting, and used a second Yongnuo flash in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box as my main light positioned in front at camera right. The strobes and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N. Other plants, flowers, fruit or thingys that I've photographed using strobes can be seen in my Strobe Lit Plant set. For each image in the set, and there are over 1700 of them, I describe how I set up the lighting for that particular shot. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157628079460544/
Other pictures that I've taken of Birds of Paradise flowers can be seen in my cleverly titled Birds of Paradise album.
