An apartment building now sits on the site of one of the most famous venues in Manchester history.

The iconic Haçienda opened in 1982. It was a successful venture for some years but problems with drugs and crime took their toll.

The club finally closed its doors in 1997.

The Haçienda was closely associated with Factory Records, Tony Wilson and New Order.

Many of the most famous names in the Manchester music scene of the time played on its stage which also the UK debut Madonna.
