We must have been over 13000 feet here and I was finding it diificult to function but the road being so spectacular I did manage a few shots.

The weather being unbearably hot with day temperatures soaring to 40 degrees C I have not been able to indulge in any photography recently. This is an old one and I might have uploaded it earlier but I wanted to share it with those friends who have joined me in the last few years.

Spectacular and breathtaking are the two adjectives that best describe this road connecting Manali in the state of Himachal Pradesh and Leh(Ladakh) in the state of Jammu & Kashmir. The average altitude of this highway is over 10000 feet above sea level and it crosses some of the highest mountain passes in the world.

I have travelled a lot of mountain roads in the Himalayas but the Manali-Leh highway is probably the most amazing and spectacular I have ever seen. The sand and rock formations on this high altitude road really take your breath away.To the right of the shot you can catch a glimpse of the road.

Might be worth a look in large.

Manali is one of the most sought after hill station destination in India. It has one of the most picturesque landscapes in India and a photographer's delight. I have taken so many shots that I wonder which are the ones to share.

I took this shot near Sarchu at an elevation of around 14000 feet.We had halted here overnight. I have travelled quite a bit in high altitude areas during our 3 years in Himachal but this was the only time I was almost totally overcome by altitude sickness(headache and nausea). However, the journey was also the most spectacular we have ever undertaken.:-)

Monsoons, cloudscapes and the lush greens have always stirred up my innermost emotions.Theres always this urge to head up the mountains. This time with wifey and my elder son,I decided to book a room in a rest house at Kothi,Manali.(2007).The view from my room was splended and decided to freeze some moments.Heres sharing one of the best moments from that holiday trip.

The shepherd is performing his daily routine. I met the shepherd as I was visiting the Rohtang Pass in Manali, India. As you make a trip to Manali and start exploring the hills, you'll meet many shepherds moving with their cattle.

The Rohtang Pass reaches a height of 4112 m and is located on the Manali-Keylong Road. It is at a distance of 51 km from the town of Manali, India. The pass remains open only between June and September and offers immense opportunities for trekkers.
