My friend Mama. She passed away two summers ago but I think of her so often.
A huge thank you to all who stopped by to look or comment.
Mama often gets the leftovers. The littles all turned their itty bitty butts to the camera. I think they don’t like to be watched while they eat.
Leaf Curling Spider (Phonognatha graeffei)
It looks like Mama has eggs. She was in the top part of the leaf with the lower part 'sealed'.
Both chicks are on Mom's back, although #2 is nearly fully out of view as #1 perches proudly for a ride on the evening water.
Das kleine Stockenten (Anas platyrhynchos) Küken und im Hintergrund schwimmt ihm seine Mama entgegen.
This mama blue jay and her mate have chosen one of the pine trees in my backyard as a nesting spot. It's a pretty impressive nest. I've been leaving seeds out there for them to eat, and I hope the whole thing works out well and I get to see some chicks appear in coming days. For someone who works from home, this is more than a little exciting for me I must admit.

MaMa deer was giving her babe a bath and a hug when we pulled up to the Visitor Center to get our trail map and have a snack under the shade tree. MaMa deer hung around the whole time while we were sitting on the picnic bench. She was really enjoying that shady place!

"You talking to me?! I know you're not talking to me?!".
A beautiful mama Osprey giving me that protective glare that mama's of all species seem to have perfected.
A mama grizzly bear with cub glaring at me from out of the bushes during a pretty heavy downpour of rain. She had another cub nearby as well. Taken in Kananaskis Country Alberta, ironically at Grizzly Creek.
This is the mother of the 5 young cheetahs at our zoo. She sat on a rock and watched over the young ones while they were sleeping.
In the comments I add a photo of one of the sleeping "babies".
For those of you who know the film, this is the church featured in Mama Mia! for the wedding scene at the end. It is actually the church of Agios Ioannis Kastri and is beautifully perched on top of a huge natural outcrop of rock in the Mediterranean Sea.
"Mama said to get back here and stop hiding!!" exclaimed the gosling to it's two siblings that were hiding in the tall grass.
My little mama was back again this morning... she was leaving me gifts right next to me... and many on the flowers!! I followed her around and for just this morning from what I could find, I collected 48 eggs... that's going out looking 5 times!!
And she found the Balloon Milkweed!!
Mother Swan stirs the bottom to unearth plant and nutrients from the bottom of the pond, also they will move larger branches for their young ones,
Thats nature for you!
Mama Kestrel must have worked up an appetite while defending the Highway paddock so went looking for a snack. A pair of Black Kites appear to be nesting in a tree in the middle of the paddock and Mama doesn't seem too happy about that.
There seem to be lots of baby bluejays around, or at least lots of ""mama, food please" squawking going on these days in my backyard. The "babies" are almost as big as the adults and they are just learning to find their own food.
Adding some context here as at first glance, this looks horrendous!!
Nubia's two cubs were fighting. She'd been trying to get them to suckle but they just wanted to grab at each other so she grabbed one whilst the other was still biting their sibling. It made for riveting watching... mama wanting them to focus on feeding and her incredible mothering skills in attempting to stop the siblings warring.
She was probably heading back to the water after laying eggs when I ran across her. I know they're fearsome creatures and need to be treated with respect, but that face seems so friendly and soulful. Photographed along the Seven Bridges Trail in the Van Loon State Wildlife Area, La Crosse County, Wisconsin.
