The "Groundnut Abhishekam" of Lord Basavanna (Nandi) is the central ritual of the annual Kadalekai Parishe (Groundnut Festival) in Bengaluru. Farmers offer their first harvest of groundnuts to the deity to seek blessings for a prosperous season.
Nandi Gudi in Malleswaram refers to the Sri Dakshinamukha Nandi Tirtha Kalyani Kshetra, a temple known for a unique feature where water flows continuously from the mouth of a Nandi statue onto a Shiva Linga and into a stepped tank (Kalyani). It had reportedly been hidden for about 400 years.
After its rediscovery in 1997, the temple was excavated and restored, with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) involved in the restoration.

Caught in a torrential downpour in Malleswaram, we could not find a single autorickshaw willing to head towards Sampige Road Metro. we got completely drenched in rain when finally this autowallah came to our rescue. Taken while he was busy traversing through bylanes after bylanes in the area, this also happens to be the last photograph I took in the city around that time.

The temple is also known as Nandi Tirtha, Nandishwara teertha, Basava teertha or simply as Malleswaram Nandi gudi. The main deity of the temple is Shiva. In this temple Nandi is positioned facing the Southern direction – hence called ‘Dakhshinamuka Nandi.

There is a continuous stream of water that flows out of the Nandi’s mouth, which is considered to be holy water, referred to as ‘Tirtha’ in Kannada.
The water from the Nandi’s mouth falls onto the Shivalinga and flows into a stepped tank in the middle of the temple, called a ‘Kalyani’ - Temple tank in Kannada.
