Although from my research there is no traditional tale like Cinderella in Indian culture, an unusual thing considering that there are so many versions of the famous story worldwide and the oldest version of the tale ever recorded is of Chinese derivation, when I looked at this beautifully brocade Indian shoe, I felt that it could be a slipper given to a beautiful dusky maiden by a God to wear to an Indian festival and win the heart of a prince.
The theme for "Smile on Saturday" for the 7th of September is "get (to) the point", where the photograph must feature the point of an object. I considered various ideas like pencils and knives, but when my eyes fell upon my pair of beautiful brocade Indian shoes (a gift from a friend to me) with their pointed toes and pointed uppers, I felt they were perfect for this week’s theme! I decided to set one slipper against a wonderful orange silk sari I also have. As I was setting this up on my sofas in the sunroom of my house, a burst of sunlight flooded the space and gave me this wonderful golden light to work with which enriched the colours of both the slipper and the sari silk. I hope you like my choice of the theme this week, and that it makes you smile!
The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" on the 16th of February is "fabric texture". When it was my birthday a few months ago, a very dear friend who enjoys photography as much as I do, and knows that I collect beautiful and vintage pieces, gave me a wonderful selection of antique ribbons, buttons, buckles, lace and other fine notions. She also gave me three follow up tins of similar delightful gifts for Christmas. Amongst the gifts were these three modern Indian made ribbons in the most ravishingly radiant colours and ornamented with gold thread. I love how bright and textural they are, which made me think them perfect for the theme this week. I had a very challenging 2023, so it seems apt that she gave me two ribbons featuring elephants with their trunks raised. An upward-pointed elephant trunk is said to bring energy, luck, prosperity and kindness, all of which I have experienced since receiving these as a gift from my friend in the weeks leading up to Christmas. I have accessorised them with three vintage wooden spools of colourful threads and a pair of silver embroidery scissors. I hope you like my choice for the theme, and that it makes you smile.

This crochet lace choker/necklace is handmade by me. I used very thin, soft polyester yarn in the shades of turquoise blue and mango color, the colors of summer blue waters and tasty yummy mangoes. At the end is a beautiful lace pattern adorned with jingling bells/charms made of silver colored metal. The closure is made of a silver hook clasp with rings on the other side so you can adjust it as per your neck size. This is my original pattern.
Size:
Length: 15.75 inches
This size can be increased upto 17 inches because of the closure.

The flash is mounted on the middle of a rather big stand because I needed it much lower than the lowest level possible when mounted on top. So I used a Manfrotto Super Clamp to fix the head to the pole.

I stored this beautiful quit for many years, bringing it out for display at guild quilt shows... I passed it on to another member...just realized that I never photographed it properly.
It was bought, for the guild some years ago... For$150.
It represents the work of four women, taking three months to complete one.
I also bought one myself. These quilts are an old tradition in parts of India. Two old cotton saris are fastened together with thousands of stitches( the standard is 100 stitches per square inch! ). Designs are drawn on the fabric by one of the more artistic women... then embroidered. In the old days, the sari coloured borders were unraveled and that thread was used for the embroidery. Nowadays, the women can afford to buy the coloured threads.
This quilt is unusual, with the Yellow fabric being part of the surface... It , in fact, appears in a book describing the history of Kantha quilts.
They are called quilts, by us... But they do not contain a filling or batting of any kind. I should photograph my purchased quilt, as it also has an interesting story.

Black and White in Color
Neither black or white
But checkered, that means both
A separate personality
Sometimes faced with reality.
Sometimes lived in a world filled with love
White as a snowflake, pure as a dove
Other times sinister and held without
Heart was empty, no feelings came out.
Eyes were open, but only checkers I see
A soul of ebony, as black as one can be
The rest of the time just hide away
Not light, not dark just simply..
gray.

My friends Shabir Patel and Mohd Patel who own a production studio "Samson" has a wall in their studio where all these storage media hold pride of place.
I loved the way they were placed and the way these two brothers had treasured all this from almost past 3 decades.
I just thought to capture it and took them all out from that special wall to a nearby beach and shot this picture.
Now apart from that wall, all these medias holds a special place in my photostream.
I hope you will all like it.
Here I present "Storage media" over the past 3 decades.
The Lucky Dill in Palm Harbor is a tonic to the New York soul trapped in Florida. They have two other locations but this is the original with lots of memorabilia.
The decor is New York and the food is deli on steroids. There is also a take away bakery which tries for NY flavors and almost makes it.

I have not decided if it is celebrating the diversity of L.A. or a sad commentary on the state of the iron industry in America.
