JG Windows is one of the oldest and most respected music businesses in the UK, having been founded in 1908. Our branches in Newcastle upon Tyne city centre and Gateshead Metrocentre carry a massive range of musical instruments and accessories, sheet music, Hifi and recorded music, supported by knowledgeable and friendly staff.

Antonio Stradivari. And no, this is not the real thing, it wouldn't be in a shop window, it would be in a bank vault.

For some time I have considered changing my guitar setup from right hand to left because although I am ambidextrous I have recently favoured picking it up to play left handed and then I have to change to the right which gets a bit confusing for a short time.

Being new to the area I have been very impressed with the shops, restaurants and the high street of the Somerset town of Frome, and I was very impressed with the music shop Sounds of Frome. Anyway, I had an hour to kill while they did the work and while doing a little photo walk I came across a very good little art supply shop at the other end of the high street.

After 52 years I'm starting to play a guitar again. DeRosa is a local music shop which both offers lessons and sells musical instruments. Along with photography playing music was my passion in my youth. Starting at 9 year I taught myself to read music and play the recorder. Then in Senior School learned both the violin & oboe. I was not talented but enjoyed playing. Leaving school I bought a guitar and enjoyed strumming it etc but lost it in 1972 and never bothered again until now. Last week I bought a guitar off a market stall with the intention starting again. The guitar had problems so I went to DeRosa for help. Looking at their guitar stock it was worth buying a new guitar rather than getting the market stall one repaired. So TWANG that's the end of the song.

Played guitar today. Haven't been playing for like 3 years, so my fingers hurt very quickly. But it was nice to touch my love again. I did buy her when I was 15, she was standing in the window of a musicshop at the place where I used to live, I thought she was beautiful, but didn't bought her. At one day she wasn't there anymore, and my heart hurted. So I went inside and there she was. I arranged the money and bought her. I'm not a good player. Never took lessons and am too impatient to practice. But it's so great to accompany yourself while singing, so I'm going to practice some more, and do some recordings of the song I'm singing at singinglessons.

Today a plane crashed at our airport, I try not to think about it much, but it keeps me busy. I'm sorry for the victims and the surviving dependants.

Catching up with a chum at the weekend - walk in warm, autumn sunlight, pause in a couple of pubs for refreshments, and a wee vinyl browse in Fopp.

I thought this wall of electric guitars looked beautiful ... shot inside Guitar Bitz in Bath, Somerset... this music shop is ironically located on a street called Quiet Street.

One of my favourite music shops. Music street in Huntingdon. Nice big shop, friendly staff. I bought my bass from here a few months ago. Popped in today and tried out a couple more just for fun. It was a struggle to keep my wallet in my pocket.

The entrance to the Music Shop is now through the back wall. The stairs to the ballet studio had to move too, because I couldn't open the door otherwise.

Toy Project Day 561

This cool old building houses a music store in downtown Bentonville. I can't believe I've not visited it yet. There was a time in my life where I'd have gone in the minute I knew it existed. Perhaps I'll visit soon. I do have some old stage gear I need to sell 🤔

Prevoius attempts to get an unobstructed shot of this shop were thwarted by parked cabs, but struck lucky when passing recently, although sadly some of the signage has been removed since i last visited the area.

A of L are still operating & have a website which says their staff are "accordionholics" !

They supply the complete range of instruments belonging to the accordion family.

The signage has nearly the complete range of London, post 1966 phone codes - 01, 071 & 0171, just the present version is missing.

Sad to see the doors shut on the Oxford Street branch of HMV, which leaves me with Sister Ray and Fopp to serve my music needs ...

This is the new backside of the Café and Music Shop from Assembly Square. I didn't like the flight of stairs in the back of the cafe, right above the counter. Want to have sand and dirt in your coffee and pastries? You've come to the right place!

The indoors stairs were shoved out, which gave me 4x11 studs more room inside, but now Claude Shard's Music Shop needed a new entrance.

Toy Project Day 559

I posted a couple of quick snap from the newly opened Indy music shop Thorne Records recently; the opening party was a few nights ago, with local author and major music fan Ian Rankin switching on the neon sign.

Lot of music, busy with people, snacks, beer and chat. Great to see lot of support for Mark and this new venture, welcome addition to the many Indy shops in the Bruntsfield area, although it being so close to my work makes it quite a threat to my wallet (yes of course I bought more vinyl while I was there, how could I not?). Apologies for low quality images, was trying to grab some pics in very busy crowd with little space, so not the best, but still nice to get some pics to mark the moment.

Sophienstraße, Mitte, Berlin, Germany. October 19, 2018.

Most of the music shops have had to close down.

Variety and abundance always confuse and make decisions hard. Too much choice isn't helped here by an alphabetic arrangement that puts together 'unlikely bedfellow' genres, styles and artists. Just when you think you found what you need, there's an "Oh, that would be interesting, too!" - and the endless browsing goes on ;)
