I took this last year on a brief visit to Washington, DC. Best viewed on black, I think.
Here is a quote from Dr. King that seems amazingly relevant today:
Whenever the government provides opportunities and privileges for white people and rich people they call it ‘subsidies.’ When they do it for Negro and poor people they call it ‘welfare.’ The fact is that everybody in this country lives on welfare. Suburbia was built with federally subsidized credit. And highways that take our white brothers out to the suburbs were built with federally subsidized money to the tune of ninety percent. Everybody is on welfare in this country. The problem is that we all too often have socialism for the rich and rugged free enterprise capitalism for the poor. That’s the problem.

The sun rises over MLK Drive on the west side of Atlanta. Ahead is the new Mercedes Benz Stadium being built for the Atlanta Falcons.
There's a 5-minute window about 30 mins before sunrise where the sky gets bright and blue while the MLK statue is still fully illuminated by bank of lights. This is that.
On the outskirts of Austin on the Capital MetroRail commuter line. Since the line opened in 2010, a new community has grown around this station site. Not a bad crowd for an off-peak service.

I got a good vibe about Atlanta from the moment I saw its skyline. It was the first stop on my trip where I experienced really warm and sunny weather. The people were very welcoming and friendly. A pretty girl with blue hair and cutout knees in her jeans smiled at me. That's all it takes for me : )

This event brings Northern Californians together to honor the life of Martin Luther King Jr. and to continue his march for civil rights, social justice and equality for all. Jam-packed and highly interactive from start to finish with a six mile WALK and a diversity expo, the march attracts a diverse crowd of 28,000 very enthusiastic participants to downtown Sacramento for day of civic engagement, reflection and enrichment.

When Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man on a bus on December 1, 1955, she started a chain reaction that led to the birth of the civil rights movement in America. Martin Luther King Jr. was arrested on Feb 22, 1956, for his involvement in the subsequent demonstrations for equal rights. This was taken at the beginning of that journey - before anybody knew his name.
Dozens of photographs from the civil rights-era were recently discovered in a storage room used by the Montgomery County Sheriff's office.
The original photo had the word 'dead' scrawled in biro accross the pic, which I have removed.
