Originating in East Asia, M. sinensis is widely naturalized and considered invasive in parts of its naturalized range including the eastern U.S.

Miscanthus sinensis plumes grow even in freezing temps here in Minnesota.. I just loved how it looked with the sun shining on it and the wind blowing it's feathery plumes .

The Nougugawa (農具川) river may look like a canal but it is a natural river that rises in Lake Aoki, flows through Lake Nakatsuna and Lake Kizaki, and finally joins the Takasegawa river. It is important as a source of canals that feed the rice paddies in Oomachi and Ikeda.
Susuki (Silvergrass, Miscanthus sinensis) is a plant in the grass family native to East Asia. It is known as an invasive species in North America. Susuki is a popular plant for Japanese paintings to invokes a rustic mood on the riverside.
It is also a material for thatched roofs (茅葺き屋根 Kayabuki Yane) of traditional wooden houses.

This is another Miscanthus seed head; the genus grows widely in our back field. I tried to emphasize the white spikes here, without totally losing the yellows and oranges. I also like the form here, less complex but perhaps for that reason more compelling to my eye. This is the result of a 15 image focus stack, so it should reward efforts to view it as large as your screen allows.

I took this image in February 2020 during one of my last trips to the city park before it got closed due to COVID-pandemic ... it was a fine, sunny winter day and I enjoyed strolling around and taking photos - very fond memories of a carefree time !

Silver grass (Miscanthus sinensis) is a species of flowering plant in the grass family. It is a herbaceous perennial plant that grows up to 2 m. It is commonly found in East Asia including Japan. It has been used for roofing. It is also a popular plant for gardening and flower arrangement.
Withered silver grass is regarded as a symbol of winter or winter of the life.
Winter is the dry season on the Pacific coast of Japan including Tokyo. Climate is the opposite on the Japan Sea coast where they suffer from heavy snowfall or enjoy the economic benefit from ski tourism.
