VH-MFW CAC CA-16 Wirraway Mk 3 c/n CA16-1147. Date first registered: 21 January 1997. Previous Registration: A20-695
Manufactured by the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation (CAC) in 1945 with construction number 1147. Delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) on 27 February 1945. Initially modified for target towing duties at 1AD. Placed into storage in January 1946 following the end of WWII. Reactivated in September 1955 for use by the No. 1 Basic Flying Training School (1 BTFS).
Bought back by CAC in March 1960 for possible conversion into a Ceres agricultural aircraft. The conversion did not proceed, and it was sold for scrap in November 1963. Rescued by Pearce Dunn and displayed at his Warbirds Aviation Museum in Mildura from 1970 to 1982. Sold for restoration in 1982, undergoing work at Point Cook and later Caboolture. Registered as VH-MFW on 21 January 1997, it made its first post-restoration flight on 8 July 1997. Currently owned by Warplanes Pty Ltd, based at Caboolture Airfield in Queensland.
