Winter macro with melting snow

Wintermakro mit schmelzendem Schnee

Smeltende sneeuw. Garden, Hengelo, The Netherlands

All the snow was gone several days ago, but then it came back, again and again. Thursday a new thin layer of snow covered the ground and the trees, and early Friday morning I went for a walk in the forest to meet the morning sun. The snow was melting fast, and I tried to capture the drops of melting snow on branches here and there. This is a drop of melting snow between the needles of a small spruce.

If snow melts down to water, does it still remember being snow?

Many thanks to all who takes the time to view, comment and fave my pictures!

Cheltenham Badlands is in Caledon, Ontario. The formation was exposed by poor farming practices, causing soil erosion and exposing the underlying Queenston shale. It has recently snowed and it was melting. The runoff is like clay. You have to wear rubber boots to get around. How do the trees grow in clay?

Ice Sailing Boats parked along the shore at Crystal Beach at Lake Bomoseen.

Long Lake, Yellowknife NWT, Canada. Early spring May 4, 2022. As the ice on the lake begins to melt it turns dark in colour, indicating that it is getting ready to give way for the summer. During the winter months the ice depth can be as much as a yard and a half (4 meters) thick. You can actually drive a car over it during mid winter. Now as it begins to melt the depth of the ice become uneven, and not safe for travelling across. During the winter months, ice roads for a major part of our road infrastructure.

Saturday afternoon; the snow begins to melt...

the snow was melting and dripping off the trees above this little pond in the woods, causing some wonderful ripples & patterns

Unexpected warm days make all the big snows melt these days. Much spring water expected. For me it's good - more possibilities to find nice reflections:-)

The photo of the church that appears on my photos mostly taken by the distance.

Thank you for all the comments and faves, my friends.

Snow melt certainly has the power to transform itself into just about anything it wants - A couple of years ago I enjoyed watching this snow art unfold and with camera in hand took a few pictures of the more definitive shapes. This particular one felt serpentine with a fox type head, maybe even dragon-like, and was my favorite. I left the few spots of twigs in for reference. My dad would have been proud of my ability to create a Rorschach test out of any surface...haha...

Thanks always for the visits!

After a week long of sun and higher temperatures, a lot of the snow and ice had melted along St, Christopher's Beach. Now there is open water to the shoreline.

How could I not be playful when I have such a marvelous camera and hearing the snow melting so hard that it sounds like a river coming down from my roof

What an awesome season

Toward home, a land that I've never seen.

Winter and snow melting off in the Spring Mountains of Southern Nevada. The foliage in the lower 6,000 ft altitude just loves the melt off.

A narrow stream cuts through late‑winter snow in a fog‑covered Jura clearing, revealing patches of moss and grass beneath the melting surface. Scattered conifers fade into the mist, shaping a quiet, humid transition between seasons.

Ruisseau d’hiver – Jura, France

It was a very mild and sunny day. Roof top snow was melting all over. The patterns visible withing droplets is reflection of the rusty drain spout. Happy Day (;-D

A Marsh Tit perches on a branch of rose hips in Cremenes, Spain. Light rain falls as the last remnants of snow melt in the background. The bird's slightly damp feathers reflect the wet conditions, while the soft, neutral tones of the blurred backdrop highlight its presence in this winter landscape.
