I am thankful every day for beautiful, dreamy skies that never cease to amaze me...

and for the gentle hand of friendship so warmly given by so many of you.

Thank you for lifting me up and pushing me forward.

More from the pastures close to home, within the errand zone.

Very grateful to be featured on Mortal Muses, 11/8/11.

A towering Coast Redwood in Muir Woods.

I discovered this scene in Fletcher Lounge, once the main dining room of the 1891 Moorish revival style Tampa Bay Hotel, now the University of Tampa.

The light coming through the many keyhole windows was the only light in the 6,500 square foot room. At 3:30 pm, the harsh Florida sunshine created quite a glare, even through the sheers.

The lonely scene and the way the light seems to cause the 'throne' to disintegrate brought to mind the famous soliloquy from Macbeth.

The path curves down to a lovely little spot for a picnic.

This old 'presser,' as Rosa herself described it in her Sicilian accent and hand gestures, sits at the Rosa Fiorella Winery on 10 acres near Bradenton. It's a quiet and humble little place off the beaten path, providing a pleasant spot to have a glass of local wine.

Pleasure is spread through the earth

In stray gifts to be claimed by whoever shall find.

I adore with all my heart these sweet hands who find so many treasures to share.

They were bright, bright pink bougainvillea petals she found during our little walk through downtown Boca Grande on mother's day. As much as I wanted to share the beauty of the color, the black and white told the real essence of the story.

It wasn't all film pictures in Budapest, I also used my iphone. This was taken during the evening on one of my conference days. The organisers took us out for a dinner boat trip. Before dinner we were served champagne and canapes on the top deck. When the boat passed the Parliament Building, seen here, there was a row of people along the edge with a camera in one hand and champagne in the other. Me included!

I took this while in Santa Rosa for Thanksgiving, we were going to my favorite yarn shop on fourth street and i loved this sign

It's the year of the Water Dragon, so another look at the guardian of the temizuya at the shinto shrine.

This shrine is called Ohira Hachimangu (大平八幡宮), a small shrine right off the old Tokaido Highway. I know that info isn't too terribly important, but it's my habit to always write down the kanji of shrines and temples I visit and later try to puzzle out the pronunciation. This time it was easy to read, but sometimes the kanji is pretty challenging!

The temizuya (手水舎) is where one is suppose to cleanse one's self before praying. Traditionally you would bow (to the dragon, I guess), clean your hands, feet, and rinse out your mouth, clean the ladle itself, then bow to the dragon once more before moving on to pray at the shrine. There is even an order to which hand and foot first if you want to get hardcore. These days most people wash their hands, and occasionally rinse their mouths, but I've never seen anyone clean their feet!

Look at this poor dragon -- he is chained up! A small chain... but a magic one, no doubt, so he can't get away.

By the way, anyone know if the dragon at the temizuya has a special name? I couldn't find any in my shinto books.
