Schon drei Jahre mischt die SNCF mit dem Tochterunternehmen OUIGO im Spanischen Verkehr mit. Von Madrid geht es nach Barcelona und nach Valencia. Zwar nur ein paar mal am Tag, aber mit den eingesetzten doppelten TGV Douplex wird eine ordentliche Kapazität zur Verfügung gestellt. Das muss auch sein, denn OUGI ist wie in Frankreich klar als LowCost Angebot im Markt platziert.

Hier ist eine Doppeleinheit auf dem Weg nach Barcelona. Zaragosa wurde vor 10min als einziger Halt verlassen und jetzt geht die Fahrt erstmal durch die hügelige Gegend direkt nach Osten.

Die Renfe kommt auf der "Rennestrecke" von Barcelona nach Madrid seit wenigen Jahren stark unter Druck. Die Zeiten des Monopols sind vorbei. Die SNCF ist mit Ouigo, Trenitalia (und weitere Investoren) mit Iryo in Konkurrenz zum einstigen Platzhirischen zwischen den Städten unterwegs.

Nicht zuletzt diese Entwicklung hat die Renfe wohl dazu bewogen mit "Avlo" einen LowCost Anbieter zu schaffen der ebenfalls zwischen den Städten pendelt.

Eingesetzt werden Züge von Talgo, den "Patos" (=Ente) der Reihe 112. Im Moment werden lediglich 2 tägliche Zugpaare angeboten, was im Vergleich zur Konkurrenz eine verschwindend kleines Angebot ist. Es soll aber mit der Inbetriebnahme der neuen Avril Zügen (der nächsten Generation von 300km/h schnellen Zügen der RENFE) ausgebaut und erweitert werden.

Man darf gespannt sein, denn die Lackierung - so eigenwillig sie sein mag - gefällt!

Wir stehen zwischen Calatayud und Guadalajara ungefähr 45min ausserhalb von Madrid "im nichts". Zur Mittagszeit geht es da Rund, innerhalb von gerade mal 30min bekommt man das komplette Angebot vor die Linse. 2x Renfe, einmal Ouigo, einmal Iryo und eben einmal diesen Avlo.

I imagine that, when you come from northern countries, where the sun is scarce in winter, you look forward to traveling south and soak in bright skies, color and warmth (not the unbearable heat we have to endure in summer). If you go on a trip from a similar country, though, you value the cultural and historical differences more. It’s annoying to find that it’s almost impossible to take a photograph because of the number of people everywhere. However, low cost traveling spread this phenomenon all over Europe, whether south or north. I shot this image at a moment when there wasn’t a crowd, and in monochrome to give my eyes a break from so much brightness.
