Damit ich zukünftig noch flotter unterwegs sein kann, hat mir GOOGLE ein paar Socken geschickt. Ich bin mir allerdings nicht sicher, wann .. wo .. und ob ich sie überhaupt tragen soll .. 😜👉
GOOGLE sent me a pair of socks so that I can be even faster on the road in the future. However, I'm not sure when.. where.. and if I should even wear them.. 😜👉
turns out my dentist appt. yesterday was just a consultation type thing. took about 20 x-rays, did a brief cleaning and discussed my future work. I haven't been to this dentist in so long, I forgot how much I like him. I'm not even terrified of going back for my next FOUR appointments. Scared, yes. Terrified, not so much.
Anyhow, we celebrated the fact that I did not have to endure any torturous dental pain yesterday by going to our new favorite sushi place, Izumi in Bethpage. I feel a bit bad - we had been going to Ozumo, also in Bethpage, for so long. We were regulars there, had our own table and everything, but this new place - wow. So fresh and different and so many other options besides the usual rolls. There are only so many combos of tuna/salmon/tempura/tobiko/rice you can take before it become like Taco Bell - a hundred foods on the menu, all with the same five ingredients.
My favorite things at Izumi are the ones not wrapped in rice - we had something wrapped in a thin layer of cucumber last night that was amazing. The sauces are rich and tasty without being overpowering. Everything tastes fresh. Plus, the service is excellent. There is nothing that sours you on a place like having to wait half an hour after you are done eating for someone to bring your check.
So we are not so much cheating on Ozumo, as leaving them for a younger, sexier sushi experience. It's like a sushi mid life crisis.
Cheltenham Wetlands Park was once part of the U.S. Naval Radio Station, Cheltenham, Maryland. It was commissioned in 1939.
“The original antenna fields, comprising creosoted wood telephone poles and metal antenna towers, were located in the acreage surrounding the buildings. All metal antenna poles have been removed from the installation. Some abandoned creosoted wood poles remain in the wooded and swampy sections of the installation.
Established as a radio receiving station before World War II, the installation's mission evolved to administration during the Cold War era.”
This was without a doubt the best day of our trip. We went out with Einar and his son from Öræfaferðir / Local Guide Travel Service. They were both amazing, and we would highly recommend their services! Please feel free to check out the link below for more information.
Our first stop was to throw on some crampons and hike along the Svínafellsjökull Outlet on Vatnajökull Glacier. These were some of the most breathtaking sights we have ever seen, and it was even more amazing to be on them and experiencing them first hand.
Interesting trivia facts from our guide, Einar:
An early fight scene between Christian Bale and Liam Neeson in Batman Begins was filmed on this glacier. Because the glaciers are always melting and evolving, we did not see the glacier exactly as they did, but this is still where it all went down. Interestingly, Liam Neeson was not even aware they were shooting a Batman film at the time of the shoot. Director Christopher Nolan apparently likes to play things "very close to the chest." Here is a shot of my wife and I reenacting their exciting battle.
Additionally, episodes from Season 2 of HBO's "Game of Thrones" were filmed here. Icelandic locals get a real kick out of the scenes on display because chase scenes that were intended to take place over the course of several miles clearly show the distinctive "Pig Mountain" (Svínafells, hence Svínafellsjökull means "Pig Mountain Glacier") in the same spot in the background, clearly indicating that they had only moved maybe 100 feet in between shots.
