The traditional boats on the Costa da Caparica beach are a tourist attraction and a cultural heritage. These boats, called botes or fragatas, are used for artisanal fishing and have bright colors and rounded shapes. Some of them are anchored in the sand, while others are out at sea, waiting for the fishermen.
Some days are better than others for the local fishermen. Some go right out into the ocean water to cast their nets, as seen here. This is usually close to the Fishing Pier and most are local people; all except First Nations people need to obtain a fishing licence.
Fishing is not a solitary endeavor—it is a community’s heartbeat, a shared struggle, and a tradition passed down through generations. This image captures a powerful moment of unity and determination as a fishing community in Pagudpud, Ilocos, Philippines, prepares to launch their boat to intercept an approaching school of fish. The golden light of late afternoon adds warmth and a sense of time to the narrative. The group effort—young and old working together—conveys themes of resilience, cooperation, and the traditional way of life dependent on the sea.
Along the shores of Sarangani Bay, Mindanao, Philippines, a rustic fishing pier stretches out to meet the shifting tide. Used by local villagers for recreational and small-scale fishing, this tranquil spot is framed by rocky shores and vibrant coconut palms, reflecting the community's deep connection to the sea.
Shortly after daybreak, fishermen were returning from a night's hunt. Looking out of the cottage where I spent the night, I can smell the salty breeze of the shoreline. Good to be far away from pollution sometimes.

And just like everything else, all must come to pass. I'm posting the last few photos of the Palawan series. I plan to start some other series real soon.

I shot this image with an ND400 Hoya filter, in fact under full daylight I got a 15 seconds exposure at f16. The light was pretty much balanced so I didn't need to use any grad filter for the sky. In Lightroom I worked on contrast, clarity, white balance and sharpness. I like this image for the greens and blues and for the calmness around it. Sao Tomé is a very nice place to visit.
Please, if you can, write personal comments rather than pasting group logos. Be kind and don't send invitation to award groups (P1/C3 and alike), I browse Flickr a lot and post a personal comment when I see a photo that I like, not because I have to do it. I'm sure you understand. Thanks
While waiting for our permits, these two fishermen suddenly appeared from behind the boats and are going about their daily business unconcerned with all the frenetic activity around them. (Puerto Princesa, Philippines, May 2013)
