The Coronavirus pandemic ushered in a time of isolation and quarantine, but it allowed the unique opportunity for the Canons Regular to take advantage of livestream technology to broadcast our Divine Services heretofore unknown to many people around the world.

Undeterred by quarantine restrictions, a number of Canons made creative use of the latest camera technology and video-editing software to show forth the Sacred Liturgy online. In this manner, many Catholics, Christians, and even the religiously unaffiliated were able to partake in watching the livestreaming in various locations around the globe. The result has been nothing short of remarkable.

A Chinese man who set his ex-wife on fire as she livestreamed to her online followers was sentenced to death on Thursday, concluding a murder case that received nationwide notoriety.

The victim, 30-year-old Lhamo, was a farmer and livestreamer in a Tibetan autonomous prefecture in southwestern Sichuan province. She was streaming a video of herself last September when a man burst in, poured gasoline on her and set her on fire. She died two weeks later.

Her ex-husband, Tang Lu, was arrested soon after. On Thursday in court, he was found guilty of homicide, sentenced to death and ordered to pay compensation, according to state-run broadcaster CCTV.

The court found his crime "was extremely cruel" and "deserves severe punishment," CCTV reported.

Tang had a history of physical abuse toward Lhamo, reportedly beating her many times before they divorced in June 2020, according to CCTV. In the following months, he repeatedly sought her out and asked to remarry, but was turned away -- leading to the murder.

The case was widely covered in national and international media, drawing attention for the gruesome nature of Lhamo's death -- as well as raising discussion on the larger problems surrounding women and violence in China. On Chinese social media, there was heated debate over how the country's legal system often fails to protect victims while easily pardoning perpetrators of abuse.

In response to the global crisis in education, thousands of education actors from around the world came together for the Transforming Education Summit during the U.N. General Assembly this past September to discuss systemic issues of equity, inclusion, quality, and relevance. From climate emergencies to the rise of fake news to public health crises, education systems must not only equip the next generation with the skills needed to read, write, and count, but to actively problem-solve and think creatively in today’s rapidly changing world. To help reach Sustainable Development Goal 4, it is essential to transform education systems to meet the needs of today’s learners and deliver a breadth of skills equitably to all children.

The Center for Universal Education (CUE) at Brookings hosted a symposium on education systems transformation on Friday, February 17 at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. As a celebration of its 20th anniversary, the center launched its new 10-year strategy focusing on systems transformation for holistic education, locally defined priorities, and collaboration in bringing research to practice across education ecosystems. The event explored some of the false dichotomies that often characterize education systems transformation—foundational versus holistic learning, local versus global focus, and policy versus practice—and examined the critical role of systems transformation across CUE’s and partners’ diverse work portfolios.

The opening and closing sessions were livestreamed for remote audiences.

In this manner, many Catholics, Christians, and even the religiously unaffiliated were able to partake in watching the livestreaming in various locations around the globe. The result has been nothing short of remarkable.

In this photo album, viewers will be able to get a behind the scenes glimpse at all the careful effort that is undertaken to broadcast the Sacred Liturgy to the world.

This year’s celebrations of Krishna Janmashtami (Krishna’s appearance day) was a 2-day event, on Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday activities included Bhakti Marga Academy's lecture on the Bhagavad Gita, 108 Yajnas for Krishna, a play about Krishna that included the first Alvars (bhakti saints), a midnight abhishekam, prasad at 2:30 am, and lots of bhajan singing in honour of Krishna and His life.

Thursday's highlights featured a talk by Paramahamsa Vishwananda about Krishna's life that was also a livestreamed all over the world. Overall, it was a loving and heart-opening celebration, where Guruji encouraged all of us to allow Krishna to be born in our hearts.
