Premier John Horgan, Holocaust survivors and Jewish community leaders participated in a livestreamed Yom HaShoah ceremony today, April 8, 2021, to remember the six million Jewish lives lost – along with millions of others targeted by the Nazis because of their ethnicity, sexual identity or disability – during the Holocaust.

This weekend's activities revolved around the Sudarshana Chakra, Lord Narayanaya's famed spiritual weapon. Known for its protection of the surrendered devotees and its destruction of all negative forces, it was a timely focus for these days of Covid-19 and the fear that seems so prevalent in the world today.
Saturday started with Guru puja, followed by Kalash puja, and then the Sudarshana Yajna began. For this event, not only the main yajna kund was used, but eight individual kunds were placed around the Sudarshana murti located in front of the main temple. Simultaneously, 50 individually-sponsored yajnas were performed on the back lawn by Residents of The Ashram. After the yajnas, Gurudev also performed an abhishekam ceremony on the large murti.
The entire event was livestreamed and commented on by Rishis and Swamis who gave insights into the significance of the Sudarshana Chakra and told personal stories. On Sunday morning, Gurudev joined the prayers to sing a variety of beautiful bhajans, too.

The Coronavirus pandemic ushered in a time of isolation and quarantine, but it allowed the unique opportunity for the Canons Regular to take advantage of livestream technology to broadcast our Divine Services heretofore unknown to many people around the world.
Undeterred by quarantine restrictions, a number of Canons made creative use of the latest camera technology and video-editing software to show forth the Sacred Liturgy online. In this manner, many Catholics, Christians, and even the religiously unaffiliated were able to partake in watching the livestreaming in various locations around the globe. The result has been nothing short of remarkable.

St Columb’s Cathedral’s first female Canon in its 400–year–history has been installed as a member of the Cathedral Chapter at a Service in Londonderry. The Rev Canon Katie McAteer, the Pastoral Director of the CCCMSP Group of Parishes, took her stall opposite her colleague, Glendermott and Newbuildings Rector, the Rev Canon Robert Boyd, during a Covid–compliant double Installation Service on Wednesday evening.
Canon McAteer was following in the footsteps of her father who was a Canon of Chester Cathedral. For Canon Boyd it was a case of déjà vu: he had previously served as a member of the Cathedral Chapter of St Patrick’s, in Armagh.
Wednesday evening’s Service was led by the Dean of Derry, the Very Rev Raymond Stewart, who welcomed the new Canons, members of their families and members of their parishes to the Service. Dean Stewart said some of the people who had been invited to the Service had decided for health and safety reasons not to attend. There was rigid enforcement of Coronavirus guidelines in church, including physical distancing, hand sanitisation and the wearing of face coverings. The Service was livestreamed on the Cathedral’s Facebook page.
The sermon was preached by the Bishop of Derry and Raphoe, the Rt Rev Andrew Forster, who appointed the two new canons last June. “It’s so good to be together, tonight in the Cathedral, to share in this time of celebration,” Bishop Andrew said, “limited though it is in these strange and difficult days that we’re living through.”
It was, the Bishop said, an important night for the Church, the diocese and its parishes, and for Robert and Katie, and their families. They had gathered primarily to worship Almighty God, Bishop Andrew said, but they were also there to honour “two of our own” as they became Canons of the ancient and beautiful cathedral of St Columb.
“This evening, Robert and Katie, we’re here to celebrate you, we’re here to encourage you and we’re here to pray for you. And we’re also here to thank you, to thank you for your ministry, to thank you for who you are as followers of Jesus Christ, and to thank you for who you are as ordained people who serve faithfully, who serve well. Tonight, we’re so pleased that you join the Chapter of this Cathedral.”
“Down through the years, Bishops have appointed Canons because in their lives and in their ministry they incarnated what it means to be a pastor – to preach, to teach, to care for God’s people, just as, in history, canons and prebends did. And all of us know that Robert and Katie live out those qualities marvellously: in their own personal lives, in their day–to–day lives, they live out the sermon of Christ; in their pulpits they teach the Good News of Christ; and in their diligent care for their parishioners they care for Christ’s people.
“So, today, for me – as the first people I’ve ever had the pleasure of appointing to a Cathedral stall – we delight in you; I want you to know that we delight in you because you live out the historic qualities of what it is to be a Canon, to preach and teach and care for God’s people. But this isn’t the ecclesiastical equivalent of getting a long–service gong or anything like it; it’s nothing to do with that. It’s about acknowledging your ministry and allowing the wider diocese and the people of God to share that ministry and to benefit from that ministry.”
The Dean was assisted in the Service of Installation by the Rev Canon John Merrick and Diocesan Registrar, the Rev Canon David Crooks. Two other members of the Cathedral Chapter, the Rev Canon Paul Hoey and Rev Canon Paul Whittaker, also took part in the Installation.
The readings were read by Glendermott Curate, the Rev Iain McAleavey, and Diocesan Reader Linda Hughes. The organist for the Service was Dr Derek Collins and Joanna Higgins sang the anthem ‘How Beautiful Are the Feet’ from Handel’s Messiah.

The Most Revd John McDowell was enthroned as Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland yesterday evening (Tuesday, 14th September 2021) at St Patrick’s Cathedral, on the Hill of Armagh. Archbishop McDowell was elected to the office by the House of Bishops on 11th March 2020, having previously served as Bishop of Clogher since 2011. He took up his position on 28th April 2020.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Service of Enthronement for the new Archbishop unfortunately did not take place in 2020 and with the necessary restrictions earlier this year, plans for the service were put on hold.
In his sermon, Archbishop McDowell reflected on the Cross of Jesus and the true meaning of sacrifice. He remarked: “Any human relationship or political or social arrangement which does not allow the sacrifice of reciprocal self–giving room to flourish will ultimately crumble, because it is founded on falsehood. On a reef of sand. And that is so because sacrifice is at the heart of the nature of God, who made us in his image.”
The Archbishop was welcomed to the Cathedral by the Very Revd Shane Forster, Dean of Armagh. The Bible readings during the service were Numbers 21:4–9 by the Ven Elizabeth Cairns, Archdeacon of Ardboe, and John 3:13–17 by the Revd Dr Heather Morris, General Secretary of the Methodist Church in Ireland. Music was provided by the Choir of the Cathedral and the Revd Dr Peter Thompson, Assistant Organist.
The service was livestreamed at www.armagh.anglican.org and it is hoped that a much larger event, a liturgical welcome, for the Archbishop will be possible on a future date.

On Saturday, May 21, 2022, during Mass at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew, Bishop David Walkowiak ordained Christopher Epplett and Jacob Zemaitis as transitional deacons for the Diocese of Grand Rapids. The transitional diaconate, typically a year long, is the pastoral, liturgical and educational preparation period before ordination to the priesthood.
The ordination Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. on May 21 at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew, 301 Sheldon Blvd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI. The public was welcome to attend. The Mass was also livestreamed on Facebook and on the diocesan website.

I just watched live footage of a tornado crossing what I think is Highway 9. A white van that was driving down the road and the tornado picked it up and flipped it around like it was nothing. Cars were thrown from I-40 into a field, too.

The Most Revd John McDowell was enthroned as Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland yesterday evening (Tuesday, 14th September 2021) at St Patrick’s Cathedral, on the Hill of Armagh. Archbishop McDowell was elected to the office by the House of Bishops on 11th March 2020, having previously served as Bishop of Clogher since 2011. He took up his position on 28th April 2020.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Service of Enthronement for the new Archbishop unfortunately did not take place in 2020 and with the necessary restrictions earlier this year, plans for the service were put on hold.
In his sermon, Archbishop McDowell reflected on the Cross of Jesus and the true meaning of sacrifice. He remarked: “Any human relationship or political or social arrangement which does not allow the sacrifice of reciprocal self–giving room to flourish will ultimately crumble, because it is founded on falsehood. On a reef of sand. And that is so because sacrifice is at the heart of the nature of God, who made us in his image.”
The Archbishop was welcomed to the Cathedral by the Very Revd Shane Forster, Dean of Armagh. The Bible readings during the service were Numbers 21:4–9 by the Ven Elizabeth Cairns, Archdeacon of Ardboe, and John 3:13–17 by the Revd Dr Heather Morris, General Secretary of the Methodist Church in Ireland. Music was provided by the Choir of the Cathedral and the Revd Dr Peter Thompson, Assistant Organist.
The service was livestreamed at www.armagh.anglican.org and it is hoped that a much larger event, a liturgical welcome, for the Archbishop will be possible on a future date.

The Coronavirus pandemic ushered in a time of isolation and quarantine, but it allowed the unique opportunity for the Canons Regular to take advantage of livestream technology to broadcast our Divine Services heretofore unknown to many people around the world.
Undeterred by quarantine restrictions, a number of Canons made creative use of the latest camera technology and video-editing software to show forth the Sacred Liturgy online. In this manner, many Catholics, Christians, and even the religiously unaffiliated were able to partake in watching the livestreaming in various locations around the globe. The result has been nothing short of remarkable.

A good dose of Australia's social set gathered to watch top line models including Miranda Kerr and Megan Gale strut at David Jones' Elizabeth Street store from around 7pm this evening.
Thirty-seven designers including Alex Perry, Collette Dinnigan and Zimmerman showcased over 230 looks alongside DJs runway debutants, Ellery, Rachel Gilbert and Banjo and Matilda.
Dual tone colours and prints featured heavily throughout the evening while lace and leather made a big comeback.
The 175-year-old retailer has reluctantly embraced new technologies to lift struggling sales and this year's event was livestreamed (via the internet) for the benefit of those who missed out on one of the show's exclusive tickets.
David Jones' group executive of merchandise Donna Player said those who couldn't attend could keep track of what was happening on social media.
"Customer viewing parties are a first and there will be stylists there as well. They can watch the livestream from Sydney, drink champagne and participate in the whole event even though they aren't physically here," she told Murdoch owned The Telegraph.
"It's bringing social media back to that whole tactile experience because they are able to buy the clothes straight away, the majority of those looks are in store immediately."
Well done to everyone involved in the success of the event. Now to wait and see if it makes a difference to the bottom line of the high end retailer.
