Morning Boat - composite of boat drifting in the fog. This is a picture I've been wanting to create and finally was able to work on it.
The 3 of us (Carolyn, me, Brent) would hang out every Sunday around these times.
I finally inherited the 1977 family TV, which wouldn't die. The wiring in my house finally put an end to it around 2002 or so, but it had a good run - 25 years. Some retarded talk show is on. After color correction, I could suddenly read it: "daughter dates convict".

Land Rover Owner International Show 2023 at Belvoir Castle, near Grantham, Leicestershire, United Kingdom. Saturday 9th September 2023.
About the photograph.
This is a heavily modified Land Rover Defender which had been modified for extreme off-roading, and is seen in the photo taking part in a live action show at a Land Rover show.
I have no idea who the driver is, as I did not buy a programme, so I can’t look up for information.
Note the anti-roll bars over most parts of the car, a bullbar on the front, the rugged looking tyres (tires) including the spare on the back, the heavy modified suspension all of which are part of the modifications.
This was happening during a live action shot, where many drivers of various heavy modified Land Rover models, mostly the Defender models, showcased the car’s capabilities of handling an artificial rough ground.
Here, this 4x4 is seen going up a kind of seesaw. What it would do is slowly drive up until about halfway, when the seesaw beam would balance itself, and the car would slowly move forwards until the other end drops, so it would then drive off.
The weather was very hot, even thought it was September, it was as hot as a July weather, and there was a lot of heat haze, which would need a lot of dehazing setting, but I thought to convert it into black and white for a dramatic feel to it.
About the day.
In the early morning, I woke up, got ready, and took a three hour drive to Belvoir Castle, but that morning was already very warm, with a cloudless sky and the sun beating down on the land.
By the time I got there, I was already feeling very hot. I wore light coloured t-shirt, lightweight trousers, and a lot of sun cream, plus plenty of water.
Sadly, after about a couple of hours, I became a bit overheated in the burning sky, there weren’t much shades around, and it was kind of a heatwave of some sort.
So I had to give up, and return home to avoid getting a heat stroke, I only took like about 400 shots, and that was all I could manage.
When I got home, I had to have a cool down and a rest, and thankfully managed to stay well.

About the photograph.
This is a heavily modified Land Rover Defender which had been modified for extreme off-roading, with roll bars, heavy modified suspension, and the rugged looking tyres (tires).
As part of a live show, this Land Rover, along with a few others, was doing a showcase of their off-roading capabilities, by going over an artificial rough ground, and also by speeding around the arena.
Here, this one must’ve turned too fast, and the driver lost control, then the Land Rover flipped over a few times before landing on its roof.
This is the aftermath of the photo (File: 2023009-0249) seen here:
The photo shows the driver of another heavily modified Land Rover Defender stopping by to check on the upside down car, and going to help out.
Hence the title “Need Help Mate?” as if to imply that’s what he asked the crashed driver.
The weather was very hot, even thought it was September, it was as hot as a July weather, and there was a lot of heat haze, which would need a lot of dehazing setting, but I thought to convert it into black and white for a dramatic feel to the action.

At The Tank Museum, Bovington, Dorset, England, United Kingdom, on Friday 23rd June 2023.
About the photograph.
On the left side of the photo, are two of the re-enactors dressed up as Second World War American soldiers, often nicknamed as GIs. There is also another re-enactor dressed as a GI, barely noticeable behind many of the guys seen on the right side of the photo.
The two on the left are seen carrying Thompson M1928A1 submachine guns, while the third one is almost hidden, therefore difficult to see what weapons he got.
The guys who are holding up their hands, are re-enactors dressed up as Second World War German soldiers. A common popular belief is that they’re called the Wehrmacht, but this is partial true.
Wehrmacht is a German word made up of wehren meaning “to defend” and Macht meaning “power or force” thus imply the meaning of “armed forces.”
Britische Wehrmacht mean British Armed Forces, therefore the German Wehrmacht would mean the whole of the German armed forces, therefore the whole of the German military.
They are correctly referred as the Heer, a German word meaning Army. A Heer soldier, or in German language (as far as I know) a Heer soldat.
The Wehrmacht is made up of the Heer (Army), the Kriegsmarine (navy), and the Luftwaffe (air force).
The action they are carrying out, is a re-enactment of the Americans capturing a group of German soldiers whom have surrendered.
In the far background, near the top of the photo, are what looked like three of the Tank Museum’s own staff, doing filming of the re-enactment action.
The photograph was shot in colour, but I converted it to black and white in Adobe Lightroom and cropped for a more dramatic action, and as homage to the WWII era where black and white photos are more common than colour photos.
About TANKFEST and The Tank Museum.
The Tank Museum is found next to the British Army military base, simply called Bovington Camp, and is used by various tank regiments.
The writer Rudyard Kipling once visited Bovington in 1923, and saw some damaged tanks left from the First World War. He recommended that a museum should be set up.
However the museum was simply a shed, and was not open to the public until about 1947, when the museum was finally set up.
By about 1982, the museum was expanded and modernized, it housed many various different tanks in the Exhibition halls, along with working tanks which are often show in the live action arena.
The museum also has the only working German Tiger I tank, known as Tiger 131.
TANKFEST is an annual live action re-enactment event showing off various working tanks in staged display, in the museum’s showground known as Kuwait Arena.

About the photograph.

Note the roll bars over the roof, the winch on the front, and the rugged looking tyres (tires), all of which are part of the modifications.
The guy in the Union Flag T-shirt is the driver or the co-driver of this rugged Defender.
What they were doing, was to attach their winch cable to another Land Rover, seen below them, at the bottom of the photo, so they can use their winch to help their Defender climb up the most difficult slope, to get on top of high ground.
Having done that, they are seen in the photo, putting the winch cable back, and preparing for the next stage which is to come down.
This was happening as part of the live action show, to showcase the Land Rover’s capacities of dealing with the rugged landscape.
The weather was very hot, even thought it was September, it was as hot as a July weather, and I’ll explain what happened to me in the next chapter, below.

Kuwait Arena, at The Tank Museum, Bovington, Dorset, England, United Kingdom, on Friday 23rd June 2023.
About the photograph.
This is a guest tank appearing at The Tank Museum during the 2023 TANKFEST event.
It is a Soviet built T-34-85 medium tank, and used mainly by the Soviet Red Army against the Germans, during the Second World War.
The tank seen in the photograph, was built around 1945, and took part in the Battle for Berlin in the closing stages of the Second World War. The white strip on the turret was for identifying purpose.
It was later transferred over to the Czech Army, and around 1970-71, they rebuilt this tank for a contract with the Egyptian Army, but the contract was cancelled, so this very tank was put into storage at the Czech Army Reserve base until around 1989.
It was bought and imported to the United Kingdom, by a museum or a re-enactment organisation called Cobbaton Combat Collection.
It is Cobbaton Combat Collection’s T-34, painted with the number 146 on the turret, that is seen here, making a guest appear at the event.
The T-34 was designed around between 1937-1940, and produced around 1940 to 1946 in what was then known as USSR. A total of about 84,000 were built, including 48,000 of them as the T-34-85 variant.
The T-34-85 models were fitted with a 85mm gun, carried a possible number of 60 rounds, weighted around 35 tons, with approximately up to 935 L fuel tanks, giving a possible road range of up to 300 miles or a cross country range of up to 193 miles.

While awaiting a new tripod in the mail, I've recently discovered an interesting surface to stabilize my camera for long exposures at night; atop a metal electrical box. Stumbling upon this interesting composition with my 50mm, I went back the next night with my 10-17mm FE for a better go. While the puddled up rain provided a great medium for reflection, it proved difficult to get a clean exposure while the rain was falling. After several attempts this was my pick. minor adjustments were also made in CS5 RAW adjuster.

Land Rover Owner International Show 2023 at Belvoir Castle, near Grantham, Leicestershire, United Kingdom. Saturday 9th September 2023.
About the photograph.
The Land Rover you see in the front, the one with the number 9 on the door and the number 575 on one of the windows, is a Land Rover Discovery.
Notice the taillights are higher up, therefore this is a Discovery Series II.
It had been customised for extreme off-roading, likely by replacing the factory standard shock absorbers with aftermarket parts, also notice the extra cage bar around the roof and sides, plus the all-terrain tyres (US: tires).
The Discovery is a series of seven-seater family SUVs, manufactured by Land Rover (later renamed as Jaguar Land Rover).
The Range Rover was designed to be an everyday 4x4 that could work as either a utility vehicle or a family car, while the Series models (1948-1985) was often seen as a light agricultural and utility vehicle. However the Range Rover moved towards a more upmarket luxury vehicle, so the Discovery was intended to fill in the role the Range Rover was originally supposed to be for.
The Discovery Series I was presented during the 1989 Frankfurt Motor Show, it was based on the Range Rover, but designed to be more affordably, and as a fully off-roading everyday family car. It offered a more luggage space with the optional of adding two more seats making it a total of 7 seats.
Behind the Discovery is a heavily customised Land Rover Defender modified for extreme off-roading. I have no idea which version this is, and don’t have much information about it, only that I know it is a Defender.
The Land Rover Defender started life around 1983 as either a replacement or a total overhaul of the original Land Rover, often known as the Series Land Rover or Land Rover Series.
The Defender looked very much similar to the Series, both being boxy shaped, have similar style, and designed to work in similar way, hence some people tend to mistakenly call the original Land Rover Series as Defender.
But there is a major difference between the two, such as the Series having two plate windscreen while the Defender have one whole window. The Series used leaf spring suspension compared to the Defender having a coil spring suspension, those being the two of the many difference.
Here in the photo, both are seen showing off their off-roading abilities over some kind of a mock up rough terrain, during a live display show in the arena. The Defender is going up a balancing beam, which is basically a seesaw.
The photo was shot in colour but due to strong sunlight, a lot of dehazing option was needed, however I thought to convert them into black and white, by using Adobe Lightroom, for a more dramatic action.

About the photograph.
This is an American built M8 light armoured car nicknamed by the British as Greyhound. In the photo, it had just come down the slope seen in the background to the left of the photo, after waiting for the Hetzer to go past.
(See the photo here link for the Hetzer as the same Greyhound waits at the top of the slope.)
The M8 Greyhound is a 6x6 light armoured car produced by Ford Motor Company, first designed in 1942, and built between March 1943 to June 1945, totalling to just over 8,500 produced.
It used a Hercules JXD 6 cylinder inline petrol engine rated for 110 hp at 3,200 rpm, with 4 speed forwards and 1 reverse gearbox. The fuel capability is 200 litres offering an operational range of up to 250 mile if using cross country, and up to 400 miles if using on road.
The M8 used a crew of 4, had a 37mm M6 gun, with storage space for up to 80 rounds, plus various secondary armament.

Kuwait Arena, at The Tank Museum, Bovington, Dorset, England, United Kingdom, on Friday 23rd June 2023.
About the photograph.
The object seen on the left side of the photograph is an artillery limber. It is like a box on a trailer, designed to carry 32 artillery shells for the field gun (explained below) in a cupboard-like storage box, covered with two doors. It is designed to be towed by a Morris C8 Field Artillery Tractor, often known as a Quad, which is basically a truck.
The object on the right side of the photo, is the British and Commonwealth artillery piece, known as Ordnance QF 25-Pounder. It is a field gun and howitzer artillery, with the ability to combined both direct-fire (field gun) and high-angle (howitzer) abilities. It was calibre for 3.45in / 87.6mm shells which weighted at 25 pounds (approx. 11.3kg), hence calling it a “25-pounder” gun. It was designed to be reloaded as quickly as possible, allowing a high rate of firing, thus “QF” meaning Quick Firing.
While the artillery limber is towed by the truck, the limber in turn tows the field gun, so you have a train made up of the truck, limber, and gun.
Here in the photograph, you see the re-enactors playing Second World War British soldiers, having a little bit of trouble trying to hook the field gun onto the limber. They were investigating and trying to figure out what the problem is.
The problem was taking a matter of many minutes, and caused one of the museum staff (the man in the civilian clothes with the hat, seen on the right) to come over, to find out what is the hold-up.
It was a very bright sunny day hence the strong daylight, and I figured to use Adobe Lightroom change it into black and white for a dramatic feel.
They did manage to get the problem fixed, so they can tow the limber and field gun off the arena for other military vehicles to parade around.
The artillery pieces were designed in the 1930s, and used in the Second World War, and also used by other nations during the 1950s and 1960s.

The Tank Museum, Bovington, Dorset, England, United Kingdom, on Friday 23rd June 2023.
About the photograph.
This is a Second World War, German army tank known as Jagdpanzer 38(t), Sd.Kfz. 138/2, and commonly known as Hetzer.
Here in the photograph, this Hetzer was going somewhere towards the right of the photo, and the armoured car seen in the background, at the top, was waiting for the Hetzer to go past before it could come down the slope.
The Hetzer was a series of light tank destroyers designed around 1943, started building from March 1944 onwards, and entered into services in July 1944. Just overly 2,800 were built before they ended in May 1945 when Germany surrendered.
It weights around 15.75 tonnes (34,722 lbs), use a Praga 6-cylinder petrol, 7.8 litres engine offering 158 hp, at 2,800 rpm, giving it a maximum speed of 26 mph. The fuel capability is 320 litres giving it a possible range of up to 110 miles depending on terrain.
The main armament is a 7.5 cm Pak 39 L/48 and could carry up to 41 rounds.

Land Rover Owner International Show at the East of England Arena, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, England, United Kingdom, on Saturday 15th September 2018.
About the photograph.
This is a heavy modified and customised Land Rover Defender for extreme off-roading, here it is driving around the track, in the show arena, and showing off its capabilities.
In the photo, you can see the customised suspension system, the winch motor in the front, the roll bars, and the tyres looking like it’s suited for muddy ground. Those are mainly aftermarket parts, and have changed the original Defender into this tough looking Defender.
Notice the name DEFENDER on the front edge of the engine hood.
I did not pick up a programme or event guide, and don’t have any more information about this car nor about the driver. This Land Rover was one of the many, heavily modified for off-roading, doing a showcase to the public.
About the overall subject.
Land Rover Defender.
Originally, they were simply called as Land Rover One Ten and Land Rover Ninety. With the introduction of the Discovery models, the name Land Rover no longer worked as the name of a specific model. So it became a marque for a wide range of various Land Rover models, including the Range Rover.
The Defender started production in 1983 as a replacement for the original Land Rover which was later named as The Series model. The Defender was designed for off roading adventure as well as road use.
The engine comes in various sizes and fuel types, there are too many to mention, you could look up on Wikipedia for in depth details on the engines and gearboxes.
Production of the original Defender ended in 2016, and there was a break for a while, then in 2020, Land Rover revealed the new Defender.
Land Rover Owner International Show.
Land Rover Owner, often abbreviated as LRO, is a British monthly magazine for Land Rover enthusiasts, published by a company based in Peterborough. The full title is often Land Rover Owner International.
It first started in July 1987 by a group of East Anglian businessmen, and was a mainly black and white 40 pages magazine. By the mid-1990s, it was bought by a publishing group, and became one of the popular Land Rover magazines.
The Land Rover Owner International Show is a yearly event ran by the magazine, and usually during the weekend in September. It features many various Land Rover vehicles on display, and includes an action arena for Land Rover drivers to display their driving skills.
