Message on the bag - "For over 30 years, the Don't mess with Texas® campaign has been reminding motorists to keep our highways litter-free." My message - I hate litterbugs!

Growing up, we lived in Wichita Falls, Texas. My dad was from Wahoo, Nebraska.
Each year, either in the summer or at Christmas, we made a trip to Nebraska to see the family.
In our summer 1961 trip, we saw a movie and went shopping in downtown Omaha.
This is a litterbag I picked up while in Omaha.

The annual Earth Day Awards presentation took place on April 11.
The 2016 Solid Waste Division Earth Day Awards recognize individual citizens, organizations, schools, and businesses for their distinguishing environmental programs or projects.

Adopt-A-Road Volunteer: Donna Martin
The Adopt-A-Road Program offers individuals, service groups, and other community groups – including local businesses – an opportunity to volunteer their time to help keep Kitsap County clean. Volunteers receive safety training, safety equipment, litterbags, and free disposal for roadside cleanup activities. Volunteers who meet the program’s annual cleanup commitment receive roadside recognition with an Adopt-A-Road sign.
Donna Martin joined the Adopt-A-Road program in 2006. She tirelessly removes litter on her frequent walks in her South Kitsap neighborhood. She chose to clean up two miles of roadway near her that are semi-rural and have had chronic litter and illegal dumping issues.
She has logged in 162 hours, removed 532 pounds of litter, and cleaned up 73 miles of roadway.
Kevin Bevelhimer, Adopt-A-Road Program Coordinator, said, “I believe she has been working diligently, removing litter and trash well before our program was established. These statistics in no way are meager, especially taken into account that most litter is made up of light weight material like plastic bottles and paper.” She has also assisted with the removal of over 1 ton of illegally dumped debris by identifying, reporting, and marking the material, making it easier for the crews to access.

“Decomposition in Aquatic and Terrestrial Invaded Systems”

This study compared the decomposition rates between native and invasive leaf litters in both a terrestrial and aquatic environment. We used leaves from the invasive species Tree of Heaven and native species Smooth Sumac, in mixed and single species leaf litterbags. Both of these species are found in Rock Island, and the surrounding areas. The decomposition rates found are used to decide if a threshold exists for invasive species to have an effect on native decomposition, thus altering ecosystems. This is the third and final year of this project. Our research along with the past two years of data collected from Augustana will be sent to the Ecological Research as Education Network. It will the be paired with similar data from multiple other undergraduate institutions to compare a variety of geographical and climate conditions.
These litterbags were deployed in ephemeral ponds in Louisiana as part of a study on how Chinese tallow leaves affect pond animals. I didn't intend to capture the reflection of the trees, but it's a nice effect. I hope you like it.
Heute habe ich mal Konstantin bei seiner Arbeit geholfen, er ist auch Förster und misst verschiedene Parameter auf einer Kuhweide. Das Bodenatmung Messgerät hat allerdings schon nach drei Messungen den Geist aufgegeben so das wir uns nur noch mit dem anbringen von "Litterbags" beschäftigt haben.
Ich messe auf dem Bild übrigens gerade die Bodenfeuchte.
