Lio Piccolo è una località della Laguna Veneta, compresa nel comune di Cavallino-Treporti. È talvolta indicata come un'isola, sebbene sia piuttosto un insieme di isolotti separati da stretti canali. L'appellativo Lio è un termine locale, oggi in disuso, che significa lido. L'appellativo latino Litus Minor, servì per distinguerla dalla vicina Litus Maior, l'attuale Lio Maggiore di Jesolo.[senza fonte]
Vi si accede da Treporti percorrendo una strada molto panoramica, essendo del tutto circondata da paludi. Si tratta di una località prevalentemente agricola: attorno alla chiesetta dedicata a Santa Maria della Neve sorgono una manciata di edifici, mentre il paesaggio circostante si caratterizza per la presenza di orti - dove si coltivano, tra l'altro, le note castraùre (il primo germoglio del carciofo violetto) e le zizołe (giuggiole) - con qualche casone isolato, intervallati da canali, zone di barena e valli da pesca.
Ha subito, nel corso dei secoli, notevoli mutazioni territoriali, a causa di fenomeni quali la subsidenza e l'erosione marina

Life isn't easy being a lioness mother! She just came for a group of lionesses to pick up het cub. The cub can been seen behind her left feet/under her belly! She had four cubs, three of them hiding in the bushes at some distance!

This lioness (panthera leo) and her cubs were relaxing, on open land, in the early morning sun, when I saw them. The photograph was taken during a visit to the Kalahari Desert, in Botswana. I have no doubt these animals would have moved to a less exposed location as the day became hotter.
LAGUNA DORATA.
L'origine di Lio Piccolo costituisce parte integrante dell'evoluzione morfologica della laguna di Venezia. Si suppone, infatti, che la località derivi, come gran parte del territorio lagunare, dal costante accumulo di detriti fluviali portati a valle dai numerosi corsi d'acqua che sfociavano in questi luoghi ed in particolare, data la prossimità, dal fiume Piave. A questo si aggiunge la costante azione del mare che, attraverso le maree e le correnti marine, contribuirono alla modellatura di queste terre. Sebbene Lio Piccolo sia oggi una località prettamente agricola e scarsamente popolata, le testimonianze archeologiche descrivono il luogo come un fiorente scalo commerciale in epoca imperiale romana legato, per contiguità e cultura, a Lio Maggiore e ad Altino. Riferibili a questo periodo sono i ritrovamenti, per metà sott'acqua, dei resti di due grandi case-emporio con ricchi pavimenti in mosaico. Per gli amanti della natura la laguna nord, le barene, le valli da pesca e i piccoli centri abitati di Treporti, Lio Piccolo e Le Mesole costituiscono mete di grande fascino, angoli nascosti da scoprire, punti privilegiati per osservare con discrezione flora e fauna lagunare.

A lioness shows intense interest in something I cannot see. Photographed in Knowsley Safari Park through my firmly closed car window. I suspect that those claws could smash car windows anyway. The free running rhinos are even scarier.
This lioness was resting on a small bluff, overlooking the grasslands in the Rift Valley, Kenya.
If you zoom for a closer look, you can see the flies on her face, and the bee headed for her nose.

(Busch Gardens Tampa) Such a gorgeous kitty. The two females were awake and simply relaxing but the male was passed out. He looked a bit like a big lion rug while lying beside this female. Visiting the lion habitat in the later part of the day gives you the best chance for catching these magnificent beauties awake.
The EXIF on my chip is wrong because, as one of my flickr friends pointed out to me, I had played with my new cameras settings but I did not set the date and time. Silly me. And thank so much Graham for emailing me about that so I would know to fix it.
This image was taken in the late evening (blue light). Normally BG closes at dark but they were open late for Christmas Town.

A lionesses instincts are incredible. It is amasing to watch Misty in situations where you can see she is obviously trying to get her own way or escape a situation. She knows exactly when to be submissive to Milo but she also knows when she can get away with something.
Young female lion (panthera leo) born June 22, 2014 to father "Izu" and mother "Oshana" at the San Diego Zoo. There are four in their litter: one male (Ernest) and three females (Evelyn, Marion and Miss Ellen). Conservation status: vulnerable
Nature in the raw. Four lionesses set an ambush for this warthog, which didn't stand a chance! Then one of them spotted us......
