Compositionally Challenged Week 2 - Liminal Spaces
From the group challenge:Liminal space is an in-between space. It is the space when you are ‘on the verge’ of something new: you are between ‘what was’ and ‘what will be’. You are waiting and not knowing about what will come.
and expands the definition by listing these examples:
* A threshold between two spaces
* A transitional space
* A transformative space
* A space where you don't know what is coming, but where many things are possible in the near future
Compositionally Challenged Week 2 - Liminal Spaces
The Highlands Ranch Mansion is known for having a ghost or two. This is the upstairs hallway. I shot from the outside porch thru vintage glass. My purple gloves showed up in the reflection so I switched to mono in post, and played with it some more to give a ghostly feel.
I went back today and shot the hallway from inside but the original version is better. : )
While set up to take shots of the bicycle in this scene, an indigent was heading under the boardwalk, I assume to get to his bed. I, on the other hand, was heading to work.

I had to go back to September to find a fence shot for fence Friday. Sorry for the lack of sharpness, but this was handheld in low light. No excuses, though...I still liked it... :)
Saturday Self Challenge: Liminal Space - the space between what is and what will happen next, sometimes depicted with a sense of eeriness or unease.
It's the sense of eeriness that I have tried to convey in this photograph of the steps going down into a cellar. My sister's old farmhouse has a large cellar underneath the house, originally used for storage of preserves, fruits cheese etc but now as the place to store a lot of ""collectables". As you go down the steps the temperature drops, the dampness increases and one cant help wondering just what's down there. I decided to post this angled image to help convey the sense of unease.
Part of the Powers-Walker Historic Site, in McHenry County, Illinois, this pre-Civil War era barn has definitely seen better days. While the 1854 house on the site has been restored and hosts special events throughout the year, the barn has obviously been allowed to deteriorate. It contains a few pieces of rusted vintage equipment, including the push lawnmower that you can see here. I don’t know if there are any plans for the barn—like the house—to be restored.
