I thought the trail through the grain field to the lighthouse looked pretty good and I liked the shadows here. Very muddy path though as it had rained pretty hard the night before.

Wish you all a magnific and happy weekend :))**

CABO ESPICHEL (lit. Cape Espichel) is a cape located near Sesimbra, Portugal. Tourists are drawn there due to breathtaking views of its cliffs facing the Atlantic Ocean.

The location is famous for the a sanctuary complex (lit. Santuário de Nossa Senhora do Cabo Espichel), built extremely close to the edge of the tall cliffs, and still in use after more than 700 years.

Also famous, are the several dinosaur fossil trackways exposed in some of the now tilted Jurassic strata which form the cape's cliffs. It is said that local superstition interpreted the trackways as the path taken by the saint when riding a giant mule from the ocean and up the cliffs, which led to the eventual construction of the convent at that location.

There comes a time in our lives when we all need some light when we all need some hope.

Tune: Leave a Light On

"If you look into the distance, there's a house upon the hill

Guiding like a lighthouse it's a place where you'll be

Safe to feel our grace 'cause we've all made mistakes

If you've lost your way..."

The Sancti Petri lighthouse is located on the coast of Cádiz in southern Spain. This day was special because of the color that the clouds acquired just as the sun disappeared.

South Stack Lighthouse, Anglesey, Wales.

Desaturated the blue sky and brought out the dark tones of the clouds. The grass was a vibrant green, so I desaturated that as well.

Liked the fence that leads into the buildings.

Shot this photograph of St Mary's Lighthouse on Sunday the 20th of March. What was interesting when shooting was the black guys in the water on the causeway making a music video. That water had to be freezing.

In honor of our first real snow this year I thought I would post a scene from last March. I forgot exactly where I took these images but believe it was along the Mississippi.

There were 4 lighthouses built on Wicklow head. Three of them are still standing. The first two were built in 1781. In 1810 the roof blew off one of them and it was replaced 30 years later. It is now used as a holiday home and you can stay in your very own lighthouse. The second one was demolished and replaced with this one and the one further down the cliff { see photos 5th,7th and 8th photo back in my stream and album below } and which is still operational, were both built in 1866.

Its said that the first pair couldnt be seen in a fog as they were in the wrong position but it has more likely to do with the lights themselves which used tallow made from beef and mutton fat, and were not bright enough.

Here is a nice piece from the B.B.C. series "Coast" which gives some interesting info on the area and also Bray head with its unique walk and railway,

The sun was already low when I took this picture of the lighthouse du Petit Mino in Plouzané, Finistère, in Brittany France. The mixture of clouds and colures gives this a moody appearance. I took a few pictures and enjoyed the peaceful sunset.

Erected in 1870, this lighthouse stands on Cape Blanco, Oregon’s farthest west point of land. The Cape Blanco Light Station was put into service in1870, then automated in 1980.

It is one of the few lighthouses that you can climb and see the original lens, which is still operating. See the lens and staircase in the previous two images.

Have a great start to the new week ahead. Thanks, as always, for stopping by and for all of your kind comments -- I appreciate them all.

Leasowe Lighthouse

The oldest brick built lighthouse still standing in Europe is actually situated in Moreton. The original wooden staircase was replaced in 1898.

Leasowe Lighthouse was built in 1763 from 660,000 hand-made bricks. Originally there were two lighthouses. The second lighthouse was a quarter of a mile (0.4km) out to sea and washed away by a storm in 1769. Bidston Hill Lighthouse replaced it in 1771. Vessels were able to enter the Rock Channel by lining up the lights from the two lighthouses. Leasowe Lighthouse was last used on 15 July 1908. Leasowe Lighthouse was put up for sale in 1929. In 1930 Wallasey Corporation bought it for 900 (equal to 43,042.27 in 2001). Mrs. Williams, the lighthouse keeper, died in 1935. The lighthouse then became closed to the public.
