Do you have a certain dream? A dream that’s very dear and personal to you? Well, I think we all do, and I think most of us have more than one.
One of my dreams is that when I get married to the wife my Heavenly Father has in plan for me is to take her on trips all around the world and take hundreds of pictures of her smiling on mountains, in woods, on cruises, in shopping malls…and just love her as best as I know how and God will enable me.
So when I saw those wild flowers I thought if one day I will be able to fulfill that dream. You know, just walk in a peaceful place holding hands, such as a path surrounded by flowers in the woods and talk, laugh, sing, pray, and play. The most important thing to have with my future wife is spiritual and emotional intimacy, i.e.: we agree in our minds and spirits about what we believe in, and that she will be my best friend and I am hers after our Lord Jesus Christ.
Of course physical intimacy is important, but there is something so beautiful and deep about just holding the hands of your life partner, or laying together and having your arms wrapped around her and not willing to close your eyes because you are afraid when you wake up you find out it is just a dream, or because you are so happy you don’t want sleep to steal a moment of your happiness.
But to have that we need to be so focused on God and follow Him and refuse to believe Satan’s lies. I remember one day a Christian girl found out that I am waiting for God’s plan for my marriage and that I believe in this verse:
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33)
In other words I do not believe in seeking directly our desires but to delight ourselves in the Lord, and let Him meet our needs and wants in His timing and His way. And her response was, “Really? I want my future husband to have had sexual relationships before he gets married to me so that when he marries me he has already seen it and had it all and so he won’t cheat on me…”
I was speechless. I didn’t know what to say. I had never heard of such logic before, but listening to Satan lies can lead us to believe bizarre things. How can a woman believe that a man who has kept himself from even flirting with a girl because he was waiting for his bride—the one God has chosen for Him before the creation of the world—will suddenly lose all moral values after marriage?!
I am not being critical of that lady, because I know how hard it is sometimes to resist Satan lies especially when they soothe our deep past hurts even if momentarily. But can we truly afford the alternative: believe Satan lies and pay the consequences with the lives we have now (which we will only live once) and lose our rewards in heaven (which we will go on to eternity)?
Whenever we lose sight of the eternal the momentarily becomes very appealing. Whenever we lose sight of the heavenly, the fleshly becomes very appealing. Whenever we stop reading God’s Word, Satan lies start to make sense to us. Whenever we stop praying, we start listening to Satan. And whenever we take our eyes off of our Saviour we start sinking:
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!" (Matthew 14:30)
