Mountain Gorilla, Gorilla beringei beringei. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, Uganda, Africa.

This Primate and the Shoebill, bird, were the two species that drove my very long wished for visit to Uganda, both are rare and endangered, both are iconic and enigmatic.

The Gorilla is our second closest relative, it shares 98.3% identical DNA with us. I knew this would be hard going, and it really was a very difficult quest having had a knee replacement. However I did it, it is the single most emotional encounter I have had while watching and photographing wildlife, I am unable to put into words what it felt like, it was just astonishing to be there as they fed, grunting and "chatting over breakfast" as they sat in the vegetation having their first meal of the day. _23A3868
