The Army was hoping they could get a photo of Ruth to use for recruiting purposes. However, at 6’2, 215 pounds, he was considered very big at that time and a uniform that fit him simply wasn’t to be found. Photo via Library of Congress #2016837777.

No Jobs for Balloon Folks by Michael Neubert

The balloons are attached to a banner that seeks Jobs - what more it says was hard to work out since the balloon system didn't work very well. The Capitol Police put the kibosh on their proceeding further towards the Capitol with their balloon-equipped sign. I think the sign eventually continued without the balloons that were forced to retreat. At this point the police had yet to show up in number . . . . .
