10 timeless 'Alice in Wonderland' quotes to celebrate the 150th anniversary
Here's another quote that's transcended its place in the story. Alice has undergone so much change in so little time that she doesn't know who she is anymore. Rather than fret over it, though, Alice considers her identity crisis to be a fun challenge, calling it a "great puzzle" to figure out.

10 timeless 'Alice in Wonderland' quotes to celebrate the 150th anniversary
"We're all mad here."
abc7.com/alice-in-wonderland/1099131/
The Cheshire Cat says this to Alice in one of the most concise descriptions of the strange world down the rabbit hole. Unlike the world Alice left behind, "mad" isn't necessarily a bad thing. Here (and as you're reading), you should embrace a side of you that is quirky and unpredictable, and maybe when you get back to reality, you'll want to take a little of that with you.

"I don't think -- " "Then you shouldn't talk."
Lewis Carroll
This rather cheeky interruption of Alice by the Mad Hatter is why we love him but would also never want to meet him. Indeed, not having thoughts is an excellent reason to refrain from talking. But then again, the Hatter is one to talk.

Jabberwocky
-Lewis Carroll-
'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
'Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!'
He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought —
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood a while in thought.
And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!
One two! One two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.
'And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
Oh frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.
'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

Regno Unito, Galles, Llandudno, Primavera 2016
Llandudno is a seaside resort in Conwy County Borough, Wales, United Kingdom. The town's name is derived from its patron saint, Saint Tudno. The award-winning pier is on the North Shore. Built in 1878. Llandudno was the holiday destination resort of the real Alice in Wonderland, Alice Liddell, the girl who inspired Lewis Carroll and for whom he based his worldwide famous story. Her family used to live not too far from the pier.

Tweedledum and Tweedledee are characters in an English nursery rhyme and in Lewis Carroll's 1871 book Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There. Their names may have originally come from an epigram written by poet John Byrom. The nursery rhyme has a Roud Folk Song Index number of 19800. The names have since become synonymous in western popular culture slang for any two people who look and act in identical ways, generally in a derogatory context.
The words "Tweedle-dum and Tweedle-dee" make their first appearance in print as names applied to the composers George Frideric Handel and Giovanni Bononcini in "one of the most celebrated and most frequently quoted (and sometimes misquoted) epigrams", satirising disagreements between Handel and Bononcini, written by John Byrom (1692–1763): in his satire, from 1725. Some say, compar'd to BononciniThat Mynheer Handel's but a NinnyOthers aver, that he to HandelIs scarcely fit to hold a CandleStrange all this Difference should be'Twixt Tweedle-dum and Tweedle-dee!
Although Byrom is clearly the author of the epigram, the last two lines have also been attributed to Jonathan Swift and Alexander Pope. While the familiar form of the rhyme was not printed until around 1805, when it appeared in Original Ditties for the Nursery, it is possible that Byrom was drawing on an existing rhyme.
The characters are perhaps best known from Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking-Glass and what Alice Found There (1871). Carroll, having introduced two fat little men named Tweedledum and Tweedledee, quotes the nursery rhyme, which the two brothers then go on to enact. They agree to have a battle, but never have one. When they see a monstrous black crow swooping down, they take to their heels. The Tweedle brothers never contradict each other, even when one of them, according to the rhyme, "agrees to have a battle". Rather, they complement each other's words, which led John Tenniel to portray them as twins in his illustrations for the book.

Rudbeckia /rʌdˈbɛkiə/ is a plant genus in the Asteraceae or composite family. Rudbeckia flowers feature a prominent, raised central disc in black, brown shades of green, and in-between tones, giving rise to their familiar common names of coneflowers and black-eyed-susans. All are native to North America, and many species are cultivated in gardens for their showy yellow or gold flower heads that bloom in mid to late summer.
The species are herbaceous, mostly perennial plants (some annual or biennial) growing to 0.5–3.0 m tall, with simple or branched stems. The leaves are spirally arranged, entire to deeply lobed, and 5–25 cm long. The flowers are produced in daisy-like inflorescences, with yellow or orange florets arranged in a prominent, cone-shaped head; "cone-shaped" because the ray florets tend to point out and down (are decumbent) as the flower head opens.
A large number of species have been proposed within Rudbeckia, but most are now regarded as synonyms of the limited list given below.
Several currently accepted species have several accepted varieties. Some of them (for example the black-eyed susan, R. hirta), are popular garden flowers distinguished for their long flowering times. Many cultivars of these species are known.
Rudbeckia is one of at least four genera within the flowering plant family Asteraceae whose members are commonly known as coneflowers; the others are Echinacea, Dracopis, and Ratibida.
Rudbeckia species are eaten by the caterpillars of some Lepidoptera species including cabbage moths and dot moths.
The name was given by Carolus Linnaeus to honor his patron and fellow botanist at Uppsala University, Olof Rudbeck the Younger (1660-1740), as well as Rudbeck's late father Olof Rudbeck the Elder (1630-1702), a distinguished Naturalist, Philologist, and Doctor of Medicine (he had discovered the lymphatic system), and founder of Sweden's first botanic garden, now the Linnaean Garden at Uppsala. In 1730 Linnaeus had been invited into the home of the younger Rudbeck (now almost 70) as tutor his youngest children. Rudbeck had then recommended Linnaeus to replace him as a lecturer at the university and as the botanical garden demonstrator, even though Linnaeus was only in his second year of studies. In his book The Compleat Naturalist: A Life of Linnaeus, Wilfred Blunt quotes Linnaeus's dedication:
So long as the earth shall survive and as each spring shall see it covered with flowers, the Rudbeckia will preserve your glorious name. I have chosen a noble plant in order to recall your merits and the services you have rendered, a tall one to give an idea of your stature, and I wanted it to be one which branched and which flowered and fruited freely, to show that you cultivated not only the sciences but also the humanities. Its rayed flowers will bear witness that you shone among savants like the sun among the stars; its perennial roots will remind us that each year sees you live again through new works. Pride of our gardens, the Rudbeckia will be cultivated throughout Europe and in distant lands where your revered name must long have been known. Accept this plant, not for what it is but for what it will become when it bears your name.

“Time takes it all, whether you want it or not. Time takes it all, time bears it away, and in the end there is only darkness. Sometimes we find others in that darkness, and sometimes we lose them there again.”
("The Green Mile", Stephen King)
Lewis Carroll 1832-1898 (real name Charles Dodgson)
The author of 'Alice in Wonderland' preached at St. Mary's in 1864
The parish of Streatley has a long history going back to Anglo Saxon times. Following the Norman conquest of 1066, Geoffrey de Mandeville was made Lord of Streatley Manor for his valour at the battle of Hastings. It was he who made a generous gift of land to support the priest, and it was he who appointed Wibert as Priest of Streatley in 1086.
The present church and chancel were practically rebuilt in 1864. Some additions were made to the tower, which was originally built in the 15th century: the turret staircase on the south side and the demolition of the original cupola which housed the Sanctus bell (circa 1549). It now hangs at the back of church.
At the beginning of the 19th century, St Mary's was in a very poor state of repair but it was extensively restored in the mid 19th century under the auspices of a Mrs Stone, who was the lady of the manor at Streatley House in the High Street. The chancel was rebuilt by the lay rector, S Pusey, Esq. In 1893, the fine Victorian reredos was erected in grateful memory of Mrs Stone. The reredos is a beautiful design in alabaster by JL Pearson RA. Besides the reredos there are a number of memorials to the Stone family. Both the east and west windows are in memory of William Henry Stone (1863).
During the 19th century rebuilding work, many of the original 13th century materials were used, such as, flint (a local material) and stone. The clerestory is an addition, the extra windows increased the light and ventilation. The columns of the nave and aisles were built in alternate bands of cream Bath stone and Berkshire chalk. In 1864 Samuel Wilberforce, Bishop of Oxford, consecrated the restored church.
Under the tower arch is a marble wall slab to Sophia Small, of Chalford, Gloucestershire, spinster 1783. Near this is a tomb with painted crest, to Samuel Rush (1771). At the back of the church there is a brass plaque, which lists the Vicars of Streatley dating back to 1307, when John de Whicheford was presented with 'the tithes of the Manor at Streatlee'.

Somewhere in our universe, on a strange, insignificant planet, a foreboding, semi-translucent black monolith flickers like a ghost stuck between two worlds. In the distance, a looming planet, partially illuminated by a nearby star, takes on the sinister appearance of a crazed grin, as if anticipating what you are about to discover. Step a little closer to the monolith for a better look, and you realize it is not a solid piece of material, but rather, an eerie doorway, or portal, to another dimension--a galactic wonderland where reality is bizarre beyond your wildest imaginations. Incidentally, a sentient being crossing over the opposite way, from the other dimension to ours, thinks the exact same thing about our apparently "normal" universe.
Perhaps Life is much stranger than we thought...

Kitty “What's the Hatter with you? Why are you upside down?”
Maddie “How do you know you're not the one who's downside up?”
Kitty “Meow, I suppose my reality is just different than yours...”
Maddie “Would you like a little more tea?”

Happy new week ahead everyone!
Lady dear, if Fairies may
For a moment lay aside
Cunning tricks and elfish play,
'Tis at happy Christmas-tide.
We have heard the children say -
Gentle children, whom we love -
Long ago, on Christmas Day,
Came a message from above.
Still, as Christmas-tide comes round,
They remember it again -
Echo still the joyful sound
'Peace on earth, good-will to men!'
Yet the hearts must childlike be
Where such heavenly guests abide:
Unto children, in their glee,
All the year is Christmas-tide!
Thus, forgetting tricks and play
For a moment, Lady dear,
We would wish you, if we may,
Merry Christmas, glad New Year!
~ Lewis Carroll

Christ Church College
Oxford
Lewis Carroll, the author of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, was a prominent figure at the University of Oxford, particularly at Christ Church College, where he taught mathematics. His time at Oxford influenced his writing, including the inspiration for his stories, and he continued to be a lifelong resident of the city.
The story of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was born during a boat trip on the Thames River with the Liddell children, including the young Alice Liddell, whose name became the inspiration for the book's protagonist.Oxford is a significant setting for Alice in Wonderland, and the city itself influenced the book's atmosphere and imagery. It seems that the writer was inspired by numerous glimpses of the college for the settings of Alice in Wonderland
i remember that when i was very young i would put my hands over my eyes when i didn’t want to be seen - i believed it made me invisible
Years later i recognized that when people acted in certain ways i imagined that they must be feeling the way i would be feeling if i were to act the way they were acting
The patton family lived behind the house i grew up in. One day I asked mrs. Patton why they named their dog Lucky given he only had three legs - she said they called him Lucky cause he was lucky to be alive.
Later the patton’s oldest son died in a car wreck - Rumor was that they had to pick up pieces of him for a hundred yards. Not much later mr. Patton just sort of seemed to dissappear. he was a postman but even at my age i knew that delivering the mail had nothing to do with why he was gone. there’d been weeks of shouting and things breaking. In my neighborhood you could hear everything. i figured he was dropping too many things and mrs. Patton must of just got fed up and told him to leave. My parents didn’t seem to have an opinion on any of it.
Between the one thing and the other mrs. Patton wasn’t hanging as much laundry as she used to - truth is i thought she was kind of pretty in an older woman sort of way and i liked seeing her whenever i got the chance - but now it was mostly Lucky hoping around his backyard acting all territorial and grouchy as if he’d been blamed for recent events and it was up to him to put an end to the downhill slide - i got the feeling that i was on his list
