ah, from the few hours yesterday when i had a working 20gb 4th gen iPod. the bloody thing buggered up in the middle of a syncronisation and got progrssively worse - ending in the "sad ipod" icon....
talk about bad luck. anyway, eventually, i went to bed this morning (2am) and slept off the grump that had led me to opening and reopening the bloody thing in desperation of righting the hdd cable or similar.
i'm now waiting for a replacement hdd. if it doesn't work, this things going back on eBay and i'm treating myself to a fancy new iPod touch or something.

I had to clean out all the stuff I'd left in the attic at my parents'- It's been 4 days and I still don't feel like I can get rid of most of the books I lugged home, not even my high school Latin books. And, useful as it was, I hated Latin. I did manage to let go of my statics and fluid dynamics books, however physical chemistry and pretty much EVERY plastics books I've ever bought are sitting on the dining room table too.
