A BEAUTY that is common and widespread in Britain, their song is a familiar sound now that spring is upon us., during the breeding season, its diet is one that includes a significant proportion of insects and in winter almost strictly seed-eating regime. The male above was captured in my garden, was not sure whether to post this one or not, so do hope you enjoy it.

WELL MARKED and distinctive warbler, the Sedge Warbler has a lively and beautiful song that is a useful aid to identification. This one was deep into the reeds but found a small gap to focus through, love seeing them.

RARE SIGHT for me, as kingfishers in Kent, are few and far between, so I have to show this as they are so dazzlingly attractive, and love that dagger-like bill, a favorite among British birders, This perch is used over and over again by this beauty.. and witnessed it catching many very small fish.

FREQUENTS dry open grassland with scattered trees, also road and tracks with telegraph wires. Often solitary, occasionally in loose groups . Attracted to bush fires, sits up-right and motionless for long periods on a favoured perch, from which it swoops on its prey.

ALTHOUGH it's very wary nature ensures that its attractive plumage is seldom viewed to the best effect and the raucous calls are heard more often than the bird itself is seen. A joy to see as I always consider this to be my Neminis bird.

SMALL DUMPY WADER, which is associated mainly with coastal habitats. Feeds in groups by running along the sand or estuarine mud as if powered by clockwork and then standing still for a few seconds before picking a food item from the ground. Also find this bird very difficult to approach, hence a fairly heavy crop here.

A FAMILIAR SPECIES, in part because of its affinity for human habitation. Widespread in Britain, and still the most numerous bird , despite its falling numbers. We have 30-40 visiting our feeders, a constant delight to see.

SUMMER VISITOR, this bird was busy feeding up close to the coast , to make the hop across the Channel and work its way south to warmer climates. I know that I am still fairly new to birding, but it seems like a lot of birds think its Autumn already, and indeed the weather has been a bit autumnal, at times. have you seen any signs ?

UNOBTRUSIVE little woodland bird, this one lost his nest in a decaying tree stump, during the resent thunderstorms, and is now proceedind to go for a second brood. Seen with cobwebs fot the new nest., wish them more luck this time.

SMALLEST GOOSE in the region and the largest numbers in the Winter months in Kent, which is a joy to see, but very hard to approach without sending them into an extremely vocal flight. Found almost exclusively at coastal distribution.

A TINY BIRD, it is constantly active in search of small invertebrates, you have to consider yourself extremely fortunate if you discover them. Feeding bird sometimes come amazingly close to observers, but views like this typically last no more than a few seconds. My thanks to Steve Ashton, without him I doubt if I would have encountered them.

"GODs BEAUTY is SIMPLY AMAZING !"

THEY may be widespread and rather nondescript, streaked brown bird, but I have a real affection for them, as a ground-dwelling species, it is quite approachable with care. Feeds on invertebrates as seen, a bit harder in the capture in the winter when they often form loose flocks.

Gambia tour 2020.

JOY OF JOYS, my brother spotted and called HOOPOE, no way I thought !!! But yes it was, our first sighting in the Gambia. Bless its heart, it let us very near, and I have over 100 keeper images, it was completely relaxed, and never stopped grooming itself, a experience I will never forget . Seen in the Kotu area.

The brimstone is a fairly large, pale yellow butterfly, with distinctive, leaf-shaped wings. Adults hibernate through cold weather, so may be seen flying on warm days throughout the year, although they are most common in the spring. Usually seen in ones or twos, they are never very common, but are widespread. They can be found in damp woodlands, along sunny, woodland rides and mature hedgerows, and in large gardens. The foodplants of the larvae are buckthorn and alder buckthorn. Both shrubs are found in wet woodland, while buckthorn also occurs on dry chalk and limestone soils.

A TROOP of about fourteen green vervet monkeys was approaching towards us on a track, they stopped the very young ones clung to the mother's chest, with the youngsters tail wrapped around the mothers tail for extra safety, they then run at us passing on both sides of me and my brother at great speed, and as you can see they did not much like the look of our company. Maybe our birding long lens cameras could have been mistaken for a weapon!

A BULKY, broad -winged raptor , medium sized bird of prey, and still not that many in the south-east area of Kent. A pure joy to see coming of the fields at Elmley Nature Reserve, the brown and black blobs on the ground are cows!!

NORMALLY VERY PLACID HERON, with no neck showing, but something came near, did not see what it was, it reeled out its neck , with a feather duster look, with a loud grunting type call, was quite taken back with its very long neck behaviour. THE FIG AND PLUM TREE, in our garden , only feed the birds, rarely do we get to eat of the fruits.. This was taken in the darkest possible spot, and therefore of poor quality, but a bit different. My wife Chris and I have been feeding two families of Blackbirds, and they have become very tame, and even enter the cottage, and has given us so much joy and entertainment during these difficult times of near isolation.

A FAMILIAR MIGRANT VISITOR, that can be recognized in flight by its pointed wings and in the adult long tail streamers. But to photograph one is the problem as the adults rarely perch, and then it's on roadside wires, so this had to be taken on something natural !!!

DELIGHTFUL PLUMP-BODIED WADER, not often seen, and taken in very dark conditions, the best of a bad bunch, but just enjoy catching up with this pair every-year at the sea side defense wall, from Jan to about April. Seen a Hampton near Herne Bay, Kent, U.K.

ENJOYED a couple of hours away from wood staining in the garden, we are lucky to be so well positioned to the edge of the village, have many feeders, bird boxes, and a fairly large garden. The most numerous of birds coming into the garden in order are as follows.

Long tailed Tits.

Chaffinch

Ring-necked Parakeet

Great Tits
