You can get dizzy looking up inside the Collaborative Life Sciences Building.
“The building relies on spatial dynamism,” said Zajfen. It’s a marked departure from the typical partitioned, fluorescent-lit medical buildings of yesteryear. An installation of multi-colored LED tubes designed by Los Angeles-based artist Pae White hangs from the white atrium soffits, helping to brighten Portland’s drizzly winter days. I am not sure if I have mentioned this before but I really like my LED light tube…lol
What I love about light is that it can make a small or big difference in the picture and in this picture the light actually makes it look like the boxes have distorted.
As much as I love the middle image as a stand alone image and I might post it at a later date, I just could not help but put it together with another image.
With regards to post, I took the left image and flipped it horizontally and put it on the right so it looked like a book case holder effect and added a navy blue background in photoshop. I took in back in lightrooms and increased the sharpness, clarity and reduced the highlights and blacks a little bit.

A little while I ago I was in Ikea and I came across these floor lamps and thought they were pretty cool, I picked one up and had a look and thought I could get a coloured RGB bulb and take this in the studio with me, so I picked up too. But on the way home, I had a light bulb moment…lol would it not be cool if these two things were portable like my LED tube. When I got home I took it apart and when I did, I was like now what…lol but luckily my brain was actually working that day and I used my small LED lights and after a lot of trys I eventually got them to stay inside (still need to work on that bit) and light the entire think up.
This is the first attempt in using them and I can not wait to show you guys what we have done…
In post all I did was reduced the blacks and increased the vibrance and sharpness in lightrooms.

I did use this image on another photo a while ago and put it with another, but also loved the way it looked by it self.
I want to use the LED tube to cover both of the models breast so you would only see the outline but I don’t know whether it was because she held one side of the tube higher or whether gravity was just on one side that day, but I liked how it came out.
In processing I reduced the blacks and highlights. I then increased the clarity and sharpness and used the spilt toning to bring out the blues, all in lightroom.

I decided to put a casting call out last week with some ideas, unfortunately I did not get the type of response I thought I was going to get, but I guess when you tell people that you want to just use coloured lights, sparklers and other props I guess it may seem a little out there…lol
I have this awesome LED tube that illuminates various colours. At the moment you still have to plug it into a mains but I have been shown how to make it portable and I can not wait till I put it together. I also have these two small LED lights as well, that are very bright and very portable and I have used them in previous images.
With this shot I set the tube to an orange colour and the small lights to a red, I asked the model to place the tube between her legs and to give me a stern look and to have one hand out. I had the light technician stand on a stool and place one light just above and behind her head and one on the side of her head. The lights in the studio was turned off and I had to use my 50mm (1/80, F1.4, ISO1250).
In post I cropped the image as you could see two hands holding the lights and I had to take one hand out, I also had to clone out the wire from the tube. Back in lightrooms I desaturated the colour a little bit as the orange was really strong and reduced the reds too. I increased the clarity and blacks. I had to go over the eyes and sharpen them a bit more as the focusing point ended being on her head as I was moving around a lot.

I know I have said this before but I absolutely love my LED Tube and I am having so much fun with, so much so that I am going to start a new album…lol
I knew that the LED Tube would illuminate the box perfectly but I had to take a few test shots to make sure I got it right. I had to use a reflector at the bottom just so I could get a little bit of light at the bottom of the box.
I had three poses in mind with this concept and I those shall follow shortly but I took the first one and straight after quickly changed the colour in the tube just to see what it would look like.
I had three different colours which I liked very much but did not want to post three separate pictures of the same, so I decided let me put them together, so I did.
I took it in photoshop and stacked each image, used the screen blend mode and used a small layer mask to blend each layer together so they would look as one as I could see the different images as individual images and not as one. I then took it back into lightrooms and increased the sharpness and clarity a bit. Reduced the highlights and vibrance a bit too.

So finally got my LED tube portable and I can now take it where ever I want too and not worry about plugging it in somewhere.
I have been recently looking for really big trees for a shot I would like to take and after a few Google searches and a few emails to a few friends, I finally found black park.
Black park is amazing and has some really really really tall trees (would still prefer thicker trees as well but for now this will do). I was going to take this picture at another spot but thought the light would look good reflected on the bushes below.
If I was to be honest I do not really like the composition of this shot, I think I should either be to the left a bit more of closer to the camera, but at the same time I still want that effect to show how big the trees are compared to me, but I shall go back and try again…
In post I brought the exposure down a little, increased the clarity and sharpness and used the radial tool around me and brought the exposure down even more so you could see more of a glow and the effect of the LED tube.

Took me forever to put this together, mostly because I wanted the mirror effect without buying a mirror. But I found some vinyl mirrored paper (amazing stuff) and used that. I supposed to stick it down so it is flat but because it was not my studio and I wanted to take it back I had to clip it down but it gave a nice rippled effect.
I used the tubes to light her on either side and I used another bunch of LEDs to light up her face.
But credit to the model as she gave me an awesome pose that brought the image to life.

I recently had an opportunity to work with an awesome new model and she wanted to do a fitness shoot, never done one so I thought why not, what have a got to loose…some parts of the shoot went very well and I have got some good images but due to my lack of experience with studio lighting (still learning) I had missed some great opportunities, wont lie, I am a bit disappointed but oh well there is always next time…lol
I wanted to show the muscle definition that this young lady had and wanted to use as less light as possible…for this image I decided to use my LED tube, I forgot how bright this tube is and when combined that we some baby oil, it really brighten the stomach area up.
In post I had to reduced the highlights a bit, along with the blacks and brought the exposure down on the stomach too, I might have bought it down a little to much but could not be bothered to change it…lol. I increased the sharpness and radial filter to have the vignetting around the angle of the body.

So how do you like my makeup skills????....lol
I used an airbrush stencil for the pattern on her face but I had no idea how much I had to wet the brush and how much paint I need to put on the brush...but most of it spilled out of the stencil and made it a little messy...and before anyone asked I did the nails too...lol
I used my LED tube to backlight her and then used the black light on her face.
In post I had to play around with the hue a bit as there was a little bit of purple in it. I increased the sharpness and reduced the blacks then just increased the vibrance abit.

By now I am sure you guys have noticed that I love colour, I love lights and I love things that are fire related and I love it when I can combine it all together.
With this shot I setup my LED tube on a reflector arm and placed it to the left side of the model and set it to purple. I then used my little LED lights and set that to pink and got the light technician to hold it to the right of the face and then turned of all the studio lights.
I got these little baby sparklers that last for about 10 seconds and I asked Jessica if she would take the sparkler and move it from left to right underneath her face. I did notice that as she is moving and you are shooting away you get little burst of sparks that are left behind.
Not much in post, I just increased the sharpness, smoothed her skin a bit and added a little bit of colour priority.

So I got two LED tubes now…lol
I really struggle with this shot, I original put a speed light under the balloons and closed the studio lights but even on low power it was still lighting up the rest of the scene and over powering the tube lights. After a few attempts I gave up and just grabbed all my LED lights and stuck them all underneath the balloons instead…lol
The tube on the right is actually an aqua colour but it never shows up, for obvious reasons…but I just love the way this image has just been illuminated.
In post I added a little glow behind her just to give it a little separation and brought the clarity down a little just to give the whole image a soft glow…

This was just a test shot but after playing around with it I ended up liking it. I got the LED tube on the left of model and then a navy blue, light blue and white LED on the right of her.
The last time I did a BBQ, I took some hot coal and shaked it front of the camera in a small home made cage and took some shots. I used one of the shoots and in photoshop I just changed the blending mode to overlay and it produced a nice effect.

I knew the moment I got the lights working in the globe that I wanted to use all three lights together, even before I had met the model I knew the pose I was going for…
What I did not 'envision' was the amount of fun I was going to have setting this up and taking it. I say this because when I had planned this, I wanted to build the picture up with lights, I was going to go 3, 4 then 5 lights. The 3 was with the LED lights you can see, the fourth was I used a small LED light and got someone to hold it and point it to her face. Now I was so excited that I forgot about the 5th as I was happy with what I saw on the back of the camera. Until I got home…
When I got home and finished my edit I could not help and look at the picture and felt like there was something missing and It did not look finished. I asked my brother and one of the things that he mentioned was maybe a little bit of separation and it hit me…I forgot to add the fifth light…oh well next time…lol
I am so glad that she bought the purple latex suit, the was the light reflects of it is just brilliant…

This was taken a few months ago and it was my first time using my LED Tube. I had switched off all the lights in the studio, switch to the 50mm. I used my other small LED lights and set it to pink and got the studio tech to hold it to the side of her face whilst the model held the tube on the other side of her face. It was actually taken hand held at 1/80, f1.4 at ISO 100.
All I did in post was take away a few spots and decreased the blacks and increased the sharpness in lightrooms.
