I'm learning maya right now. Lots of good stuff inside there, but I don't feel ready to begin a big project in it as I'm still afraid something will just break in the middle. Continuing with the learning books (mastering 8.5, visual effects, and modeling/animation). If anyone knows a good reference for mel scripting for generative modeling and animation, I would be deeply obliged. Incidentally, flickr does some cool blocking stuff to transparent pngs when you upload them.

I forgot this guy's name. He's a Marine first lieutenant, and he'd been playing guitar for ten years, but wanted to try out a new style, so he went back to school.

Please vote for Learning Pet in the Open Hardware Summit Scholarship!

Designed for elementary school students, Learning Pet enriches lessons by creating a physical interface to interact with the virtual world. We demonstrate a number sorting game, where the student interacts with the robot to blast virtual UFO's with the lowest value. Correct answers are celebrated with a wing flap, and each level-up with a dance. We use the Accessory Development Kit to interface with mobile devices while away from the computer.

CottonInfo's technical specialist for education, Trudy Staines, organised a Small Schools Science Day in Narrabri in March.
Supported by CRDC and CSIRO, the day brought together some 200 students from seven small schools across the district for a hand-on science and agricultural learning experience - covering topics from cotton, soils, pathology and plants to coal formation, gas and Aboriginal culture.
